Friend who buys different/new gun stuff all the time brought over some stuff for pictures for fun over the weekend.

Two uppers he's building have Green Mountain "Finned" barrels. They seem interesting. Not sure what accuracy is like but I think they look cool for pics at a minimum.

Yeah, seems like he only buys/builds weird stuff.... Like that YHM rail. Not my flavor. Same with the slick sided upper he's got on that particular gun. Meh for me.

Thanks.

You'd think James would be all over hokey stuff like that barrel. Maybe because it's not chambered in .277? [BD]

Those barrels remind me a little of pre-M1/M1A1 Thompson submachine guns.

I have used one in the past and it did cool down fast, but yes it was so ugly. I never did any accuracy tedting.

Guess I'm odd man out. I think it's kind of cool looking

I think I saw a pic of one these in a spikes last year. Surprised at the low cost considering the machining. I think this would be best matched to a space gun. But no space for the BAD/Brownells barrel sight is a deal killer. Haha

Didn't the Thompson Machine gun have a partially "finned" barrel, for, supposedly, cooling the barrel?

I firmly believe YHM's designers take a steady supply of Acid. They have the UGLIEST parts out there. Their brakes/flash hiders are hideous, everyone who runs them thinks so too, but the complaints are never addressed by YHM

I think there was a year or two period a while back, where many people were less serious about function, and more into a Flash Gordon, wannabe cool phase. I thought a lot of them looked absolutely horrible, to borderline stupid, and most of that type of stuff had nothing to do with the performance of the weapon. Vendors were more than happy to put out more and more bizarre stuff, as long as demand kept them rolling in dough. Hell, most of them looked like they'd never been fired. Just a boy's dress up Ken Doll. But to each their own, and that phase seems to have faded away. This is a crazy game we play.[crazy]

Those barrels remind me a little of pre-M1/M1A1 Thompson submachine guns.

That's the inspiration for them. They actually make 10/22 versions with the cooling fins back at the chamber end only.
