Probably the cheapest firearm I've ever bought new and it may be the most excited I've ever been about a gun purchase:

I'll present this Savage Rascal to my son, who just turned 5, later this week when we head out to the forests of NE Washington for a few days (I'll be deer hunting while the family enjoys the cabin and some fishing). I took it out to the range today to function check and zero just to make sure everything goes w/o a hitch when he takes his first shot. Loaded with 22 Short it's just barely one step up from a pellet gun. I really like how Savage put the Apex trigger on this little youth gun so new shooters can learn to appreciate a good trigger right away.

Oh, and for those of you not familiar with just how small the Savage Rascal is, here it is next to a Daisy BB gun

I got a Rascal for my son when he turned 5 too! Still working on his interest in shooting/hunting. I got a Bushnell red dot and that amped up his enthusiasm a lot to make shots on target.

I'm waiting until next year for this for my son when he turns six, I hope will be ready. Lucky for him (me), he's left eye dominant too.

Success! He had fun and enjoyed it. He learned how to operate it in no time. Still doesn't like shouldering it properly as he hasn't figured out how to look through the sights, but that will come in time.

That's great! Looks like a perfect memorable pic with that shooting range. We're working on shouldering the stock too.

I'm planning to get some small steel targets or balloons to set up along a trail in the woods. That way he can hunt them without knowing where they are and practice the best way to get on target.

I bought one for both of my kids. They love them. A blue one and a yellow one.

My father in law gave me a tiny pump action Taurus .22 rifle to shoot with my son. Aguila Super Colibris sound insanely quiet through it.

I love teaching and seeing the next generation taught to shoot

The color selection was one of the things I liked about the Rascal. My daughter will turn 5 in 2018 and I'll let her pick the color for hers. I'm guessing it will be the first pink gun in the house, but she surprises me sometimes.

WOW, that IS small! Pretty cool. I'll remember the Rascal when it's time to give my daughter something.

Next to my 700 sos tactical. They are great shooters. Heck I like shooting them as much as my kids do.

My boy is almost 4 and I'm thinking about getting him one for Christmas. Is it wrong that I really want to thread it for a suppressor? Lol

I want to thread my boy's as well. No brained. We just shoot CCI Quiet for now.

Nobody gunsmith locally has the ability to thread.
