Road Trip

Hey All,

I've started an ~8000 mile, ~40 state, 3 week road trip with a buddy of mine. We aren't planning it beyond general direction of travel and a general time table, getting by sleeping on friend's couches, in the car, camping, and booking hotels as needed.

I figure since opportunities like this don't happen terribly frequently I might as well take advantage of it. I've met up with a few of the members here in the past and wouldn't mind doing so again given the opportunity.

I'll list the route below and if any of you find yourselves along the way and you want to meet up for a beer or a meal. (Or both!) or you just have a roof I could crash under then let me know! I could probably be convinced to give out some grip work credit for space on a couch for a night.

Pyzik can probably vouch for me, though his wife is still suspicious of his weird Internet friends. [BD]

The first leg (Northern states) is pretty booked up, but on Sunday second leg of the journey starts in Detroit and heads east to start at the top of the east coast and make the way down all the coastal states and some of the interior ones all the way down to Florida. After that the plan is to head west across the southern states before heading up to Utah and then central CA to spend my 30 days at the permanent address for the year.
It's kept basic so it's flexible.

Also, if you guys know of any great places worth visiting, (attractions, historical sites, notable gunshops, gun manufactures who'd give me a tour etc...) then I'm all ears!

I'm not right in Houston. I am north of it quite a bit but Dallas Ft Worth is still kind of far. Just keep us in the loop. Who knows which direction you might find yourself.

I'm in Columbia SC, about 90mins up I26 if you're coming south down 95. Home to Palmetto State Armory. I have plenty of room but I live in the sticks. Not much to do here

Charleston SC is an amazing place to visit. Lots of historical buildings. Also in PSA in Summerville (suburb just north of Charleston)

@Former11B If it works out we are going to make a stop with DstrbdMedic in NC and it might just work out to head your way after. Getting off the beaten path definitely isn't a negative.

@UWone77 If I have good enough reason to go the the PNW then I'll make it happen! I could just make it a complete lower 48 roadtrip while I'm at it. :-P

@Joelski How far south are you in Ohio? I'm definitely not going into Canada. Shoot me a PM.

@Din I'm going to hit Utah today and I'm going to be free all day up to 5:00pm or so. I'm assuming you live in the same general area as everyone else in Utah? Somewhere between SLC and Provo? I'll send you a PM.

@Aragorn I'll let you know when I'll be coming through Dallas! I've already got a bed in Ft Worth but if we can meet up then we should definitely make it happen!

My son GriffonSec is near the center of the Florida Pan Handle, can't speak for him, but I believe you and he have exchanged some PM's.

Sounds like a great trip... have fun. My family did something similar when I was 10... drove the USA in a motorhome for 2 years, only missing the upper northeast. An experience I will remember until the day I die.

I've got an uncle with a house right on the shore of Mexico beach on the panhandle. Sounds like Griff wouldn't be too far off. If we come down towards Tampa I'll shoot you a message!

I've worked a mostly on call job for the past three years with no place I call home, so I know the the struggle.

This post almost makes me want to call your bluff and just drive up there... But the size of Canada instead motivated me to learn that plane tickets to Alaska aren't prohibitively expensive.

No UW, I retired two years ago and moved to central Florida. Griff is on the pan-handle and I was up there to help him with a small renovation on his house. Perfect timing to meet up with BC and friend. Super nice guys, and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Friends like that are always welcome. Wish I was available for your trip, the welcome mat would definitely be out for you. While you are in the area, if you want to visit a little south, I would drive up to meet y'all at Griff's, or you would certainly be welcome at The Wrinkle Ranch for a few days, if you decide to get close to the Tampa area.

The road trip is mostly over. I'm hanging out with family at this point working on the guns my brothers picked up in my absence. (I've got a bunch of 80%ers coming in soon too) so expect some more stippling goodness to appear in the grip stippling thread and on my feeds.

Every single WEVO member I met on this road trip was more than hospitable and I'll jump on the opportunity to hang out with y'all again if given the opportunity.

I'll be in the Phoenix area for the next few months so if any if y'all are passing through, be sure to let me know!

I'm sorry I couldn't host on your trip between NC and FL. My wife was seriously sick at home and my son and I were staying at my moms. It does sound like I abandoned her but she was very contagious, not outwardly ill. She probably enjoyed the break from the boys
