View Full Version : which length rail?

Gents,
I'm assembling a 300blk upper with a 10.5" barrel. This upper will be used with my AAC 762SD suppressor. I'm trying to determine which length rail will give the most seemless appearance (no gap between rail and supporessor) but will allow easy removal with the ratcheting device all the same. The suppressor will be removed regularly as it will also be used on a Rem700AAC rifle.

Any assistance including images would be greatly appreciated.

Any particular rail you have in mind or just anyone that will give you the best seamless look?

A 9.5" handguard with 10.5" barrel is pretty darn close. UWone77 should have a few examples with his AAC cans.

at this point nothing in particular. I love the look of the SMOS rails, will consider Midwest Industries, and a bit intrigued with the Guntec rails that are very inexpensive. I already own Troy, Fortis, UTG Pro and have owned a few others. I likely will use a MLOK design as opposed to rails or Keymod.

Watch where you're pointing those things, Mister! [:D]

I think my SMR Mk 4 is going to look downright bitchin with my Alpha.

Do you need access to the base of the suppressor for the ratcheting device? If not, then you can partially shroud your suppressor if you use something like the AeroPrecision Enhanced or Seekins MCSR handguards.

I have a 10.5" SBR with a 9.7" SLR rail and it's a pretty close fit. In fact it was designed by the manufacturer for that purpose. If your barrel is 10.5 you will need to find a rail in the 9.5 to 9.7 inch length to have a tight fit.

Be aware that listed rail lengths are often off by a half inch or more. MI has some interesting "suppressor compatible" M-Lok rails in various lengths. I assume that means the 1.75" I.D. will negate the need for a gap. I have not tried them yet.

yes, the 762sd uses the 51t ratchet attachment. Will need to gain access to the ratchet release in order to remove the suppressor. I am not familiar enough with the ease or difficulty of removing the suppressor from its mount, I have not yet received the stamp. Also, there may be devices made that allow the reach to the ratchet that is under a rail, again, I do not know.

So true. I think people that run those setups don't shoot very often. At the last machine gun shoot I went to we ran a friend's Noveske upper with an NSR handguard (and NSR panels) on my other buddy's M16 lower, suppressed, and even with gloves the handguard was too hot to hold after several magazines. If a suppressor fit underneath, it would be even worse.

Yea that NSR got crazy hot very quickly

For awhile this was my favorite setup suppressed. The 10.3" on a 9.5" Centurion

I've more/less settled on the SLR 9.7" handguard. Thanks for the help folks.

Note I'm in search of a cmt slick side upper. Everyone seems to be out of stock. Anyone got a line on one?

You want one with the dust cover or without?

BTW your gun will wind up looking almost like mine [:D]

Slick. No dust cover, no fwd assist. Might be interested in dust cover w/o assist if available

If it was me I would look on CMT's site and find out which part number you actually want and then email them or message them on Facebook. They will be able to tell you when approximately another run will be coming out.

They have several uppers that are considered 'slick side' that don't have forward assist so just ask them.

BTW I have two slick side uppers. One with the door and one without. My SBR is slick side, no deflector, and no door. It looks pretty sweet.

Are you pairing that up with a CMT lower?

it will go with a CMT lower and a CMT handguard. It's not my build but a buddies of mine that he's trying to complete. So maybe I'm in left field as far as the options go when he said slick side. Thanks for the info

I used their port door, forward assist, as well as their charging handle in this upper.

Thankyou. I draw inspiration from a lot of the amazing build posted on this forum
