Following Das Jared's suit, I'm also starting another build. Going 18 or 20"

Not far in yet but we'll see how fast I can make this happern.

Thinking a Green Mountain Fluted Stainless barrel. Also thinking I'm going to run an A2 stock.
Scope you ask? Hell I don't know. Probably Vortex something or other. I'm short on a couple optics.

CMT UHP15A, UPUR1, UHPR Mod 2, CMT NiB BCG.
Forward Control Design EMR, LDFA and ABCr-AA.

I love my Ballistic Advantage 17.7" Hanson barrel. Great barrel for the money. Either way it'll be an awesome build. That how I build my CMT set out

All agreed. And I would need a second (third?) job and no wife to take my money... LOL.

Still planning on a BA Hanson for the SMOS around the end of the month. Looking forward to seeing how that one shoots.

NOT a fan of Green Mountain barrels. They are the only barrel I've ever come across where the muzzle threads were not correct in relation to the bore. Failed the alignment test with a suppressor on and they actually were pretty poor with CS because the barrel had been shot.

Agreed. I've not heard great things about green mountain including your issue.

Excited to say I'll be sending it off to Axlenut for a makeover.

Griffin Armament is making some sweet looking barrels. Just a thought if you ever want a can.

Uggggghhhh I wish my kid was out of daycare already. The fun budget takes a $10k annual hit because of that.

Hey, hey! They do make barrels don't they? A griffin can (optimus) is on the short list. Apparently not in 18" though.
I think I'm going RA anyway.

Oh believe me, I get it! When ours first hit daycare we were both working full time. $800/month. LOL.
Wife went to part time and it's been better. Now with the next one due in April, she's quitting and I'm going to be hurting for a bit.

On a practical note... the optimus is a fantastic suppressor but if your goal is to have maximum accuracy and repeatability and less variation in POI shift it's something to think about.

Why do I say this? The Optimus is serviceable, which in all practical terms means the baffles can be taken out, cleaned, and can be (slightly or a lot) oriented or re-oriented slightly differently each time you do this. Bottom line every time you disassemble the can for cleaning or whatever purpose you're going to have to verify zero again. At 100 yards you're talking a possible 1 to 1 1/2 inches potential variation, or maybe slightly more. If you're into super precision this might be not as desirable as another model given the stated purpose of the rifle.

With the Recce 5 or 7 they are sealed and the taper mount means you get EXACT baffle alignment and near perfect repeatability over and over.

It depends on what 'accurate' and 'precision' means to you and what is acceptable.

The taper mount is exceptional because it has all the benefits of a thread on can without being a thread on can, but with the Optimus even though it uses the taper mount (because of it's design) it might be something to think about if you're going for precision.

Yes they do. Definitely worth a look. I have zero experience with their barrels but obviously I've had experience with other things from GA and I would have very high confidence in their products.

I have no idea if they make an 18" version though.

Well, I was planning on a Rainier Barrel but found a stainless BA SPR barrel for $175 shipped so I went with that. Should be here today.
Shipped it off to Axlenut to be beautified. Ordering the most of the last few parts today. Biggest item left to order is the trigger.

FYI, Griffin did not have 18" barrels.

Thanks. When Axlnut first sent teasers with his phone i thought the gray was blue and wasn't too sure about it. Haha

And as much as I like mostly traditional camo, I'm really glad I did.
