Please reserve this for Bourbon or occasional Bourbon drinkers. Please don't devolve this thread into a "I don't drink Bourbon but my favorite drink at Karaoke is a "purple passion bubble gum". Please don't tell us you pour (expensive) bourbon into coke or sprite, but o.k. for inexpensive bourbons. Bourbon snobs don't hear that very well.

I'll start with Woodfords Reserve. Extremely smooth with a matching after taste flavor of a hint of light oak. Extremely smooth, pass if you want a very hard bite. I drink it straight, or with one ice cube. Cost here approx. $50 a liter, a little less, obviously for a 750ml. bottle. Considering trying a bottle of Basil Hayden, recommended by GOST, for about the same cost, around here, maybe a bit more due to tax laws of your area.

I'll skip unobtanium like the Buffalo Trace Antiques and Four Roses Limited Editions - both of which have some amazing samples.

Looking at things you might find, my favorite that would be Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. It's still kinda tough to get routinely, but is pretty amazing stuff consumed in small quantities. Amazing mouth feel, very rich and suprising balance without being too woody. Not sure how it will change as Heaven Hill transitions this product line into no age statement. Costs vary widely, but generally runs about $65 a bottle when you can find it.

At lower price points and more approachable 100 proof, Four Roses Single Barrel and Col. EH Taylor Small Batch Bottled in Bond are both good in different ways, eachrunning about $40. Four Roses is widely available, richer and more floral - it's been very dependable. That's another product that might be changing now though - Jim Rutledge retired last year and I don't have a sense of how the new Master Distiller is handling the juice. The Taylor is almost like a light Old Fashioned straight from the bottle - much more forward fruit and almost airy. Good juice and well worth trying because it is so different.

For pure value, Old Grand Dad 114, about $24 a bottle. Has heavy candy corn notes and some of the Jim Beam rotted corn silk funk to keep it interesting. Product line might be discontinuing, but who knows if those rumors are true.

Yeah, I drink a fair amount of Bourbon, I say with a gift shop sourced bottle of Four Roses Barrel Proof OBSF recipe at my side while typing this response :)

A gin & tonic using Bombay Blue Saphire East is the bomb.

Willett Pot Still Reserve is good stuff. I've had some single barrel bottlings from the Willett Distillery that were really good. I like Blanton's as well. Ive had some version of a Pappy van Winkle that was out of this world, but i can't recall which.

RR, there's a well stocked store, not far from me. I know they carry Four Roses, but not sure what all they have, if you want I can check for you.

I have been to the Four Roses distillery years ago, I enjoyed their products quite a bit. I don't remember what I had, but one does stick out that I rather enjoyed. RR, I was surprised you mentioned Elijah Craig, I'm partial to the small batch though. It doesn't seem to be a popular brand here.

I appreciate good bourbon, but at the end of the day, I'm a single malt scotch drinker.

I mostly drink Scotch, but keep some Bulleit Bourbon if friends want any or I get in the mood. For Scotch, I normally have onhand Dalwhinnie, Macallan, and Johnny Walker.

Scotch is my favorite. But i don't discriminate. Scotch, bourbon, Irish whiskey, you name it. I've discovered some other good whiskies distilled in various styles (scotch, bourbon, etc.) but aren't the genuine article due to where they are made.

I quit drinking for six months once in support of a friend who was trying to dry out. Worst six months of my life...

Bulliet Bourbon is pretty tasty. I usually take a bottle of their Frontier Whiskey with me when i go camping. Goes great with a cigar sitting next to the camp fire.

The Small Batch is good enough and someday I'll grab one of the newer NAS as a pour in a bar to see if the profile changed. Hope not, as it was dependable and abundant.

The best dumps of the Barrel Proof was another beast entirely, in my mind. The first one I found was # 6 (HazMat) and it was pretty amazing. Some of the other dumps weren't was rich, but everything has been at least very good. And I agree that ECBP doesn't have the pedigree of something like George T Stagg, but it also cost $55-$65 (at least at first) and was available on shelves.

Well, don't smoke, so wouldn't care for the stogie, but I'd be glad to drink your Woodfords. Stainless steel ice cubes, now that's new (to me). Are they liquid filled and put in the freezer or? Great idea to keep your good hooch from getting watered down.

No FT, solid stainless cubes. They get really cold in the freezer. Brenda gave them to me - Christmas "stocking stuffer".

I've got something similar. They're called Whisky Stones. (http://whiskystones.com/collections/stones-twirls/products/whisky-stones-beverage-cubes?variant=236641103) Same concept, except they're made from soapstone instead of stainless steel.
