Black Stone Firearms, redefining carbon fiber barrel technology. Match grade barrels that are wrapped in a floating carbon fiber tube. The carbon fiber tube is vented with drilled holes to offer rapid heat dissipation. These barrels are light and sub-moa accurate, they also do not heat up nearly as much as a normal AR barrel. They’ve put over 100 rounds through a barrel in a very short time and without letting it cool down are able to grab the barrel and pick the rifle up by it.

These barrels are 416R stainless steel, double stress relieved and hand lapped. MSPR starting at $629. Barrel weights are 16″ 25.6oz., 18″ 27.8oz. and 20″ 29.8oz. Barrels will be available in .223 Wylde, 300 Blackout, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Rainier Arms has secured the initial release of these barrels.

Is the barrel tensioned?/Are the carbon fiber shrouds compressed? The photos make it look like the shoulder area screws down against the forward shroud, tensioning it against the gas port area.

Not so sure about these yet, need to learn more. A floating CF wrap kind of defeats some of the normally accepted advantages of a CF wrap (stiffness per weight, etc).

I have a hunch holes in CF barrels are not the future.

Ok, let's just point out the elephant in the thread...

Especially holes that ugly. There it is. They just are there, no dressed edges, chamfer, not molded in, etc. Just looks like surplus CF tube attacked by a drill press. Not for me.

Checked this out at RA. The barrel looks corny to me. It's not as expensive as PROOF and I can see why.

I'm sure it's a good shooter as they claim, but I don't need a $600 Carbon wrapped barrel.

I think Christensen and Proof have the CF barrel wrapped up (pun partly intended). At the last RA sale, the proof barrels were $675.

I'm more curious about the Dracos barrels (with lifetime warranty).

The Dracos barrels do look interesting.

They look a lot like a tensioned barrel with a carbon fiber sleeve (https://www.volquartsen.com/products/546-thm-tension-barrel) rather than a true carbon-wrapped barrel. Hence my question, above.

These are great when you're talking about .22lr. I'm not sure 5.56 would have the same advantages ...

As far as I've been told, these are press fit.

Also I was advised:

Nothing screws on except the Barrel keeper in the front to compress the front.

They let me borrow one for a couple of pics. Won't be shooting it.

Having shot a buddies proof'd 556 rifle I can tell you that while it's stupid expensive it's totally worth the cash for a non-beater gun.
