SP IRMT BILLET UPPERS

Seekins Precision’s Integrated Rail Mounting technology (iRMT) uppers integrate the rail mounting points into the upper retaining the stiffness of a true monolithic upper while allowing the rails to be completely modular. This new upper design is considerably thicker in the most critical area and will aid in squeezing all of the potential accuracy out of your rifle. Instead of a standard barrel nut our iRMT system uses an externally threaded, Titanium barrel nut with 1-1/8” wrench flats on it for simple installation. No special proprietary wrenches needed.

SP iRMT-R upper is compatible with Seekins Precision’s BAR rail and MCSR rails

SP iRMT-3 Upper is compatible with the Seekins Precision SP3R rail system.
SP 3 GN RAIL [SP^3R]

The SP3R rail was designed out of necessity from shooting 3 gun and sniper competitions where barricade or improvised shooting positions are frequent. At only 2” wide it fits perfectly into your hand. On a barricade, barrel, ledge or window opening the flat surfaces give you a sturdy rest allowing for accurate, faster shot placement. Modular accessory rails are field adaptable to any slot without removing or needing to reach the inside the hand guard. The SP3R comes with all mounting hardware, a full length top rail and two short rail sections in two lengths. 12” and 14
MSRP $249-$255

Upon receiving the Seekins Precision iRMT-3 Billet Upper and the SP3R Rail, I was more than eager to build this upper and get out on the range. After greasing the barrel extension of the 16" Mid-Length barrel into the upper and seating it into place, I came upon my first dilemma. Well, not really a dilemma, but more of a personal preference. The titanium barrel nut provided with the upper can be tightened with an 1 1/8" wrench. Not necessarily a size that I had readily on hand, so I set out to find a proper sized crow-foot wrench so I could use a torque wrench for final tightening. Without being able to locate a proper sized crow-foot, I opted for the next best thing...the good ole' crescent wrench. After using my calibrated torque-arm and the crescent wrench, I found the rest to be simple enough that I could have almost had my 6 year old son install the rest.

After placing the gas tube in place and pinning it, came the most beautiful part of this installation, attaching the rail to the upper. There is absolutely no way to mess this up. The attachment point for the rail onto the upper is actually machined into the upper. The rail is slid onto the attachment point on the upper, 12 screws (with blue loctite) are inserted, and you are done! No technicalities to worry about between the upper and lower, just pure simple machining beauty!

Range Test Time!

So how did it shoot? The first word that came to my mind.... Butter! With minimal felt recoil (I know it's an AR, but definitely reduced from a Carbine-Length), 15 inches of real estate to get a hold of, and a flat bottom on the rail that just holds onto any barricade surface for a makeshift mono-pod wherever you can find a flat surface to use.

Included with the 3 Gun Rail were two short rail sections for any accessories that needed attached in any spots other than the top rail. All I really wanted to add to this upper right now was an Elzetta light which I attached with an Elzetta ZROC light mount on the top rail, a Fortis Manufacturing Rail Attachment Point, and an EO-Tech.

Aside from the performance and functionality of this upper, I still cannot get away from how much I really like the look of the lines that Seekins Precision has done with the Billet Upper and the Rail. They are definitely not a cookie cutter company when it comes to the look of their products and I cannot wait to see what they come out with next.

Ammo used is WOLF steel cased. The first three shots are with the gas turned off. The next three are with the gas on the lowest setting.
Nice!

Got a problem. 1st off not my weapon. Use to be my upper. Stag 16" carbine length on a RR lower. This has happened twice. After shoting a around bolt ejects spent casing but bolt doesn't totally go all the way forward. Friend has been with me each time this has happened so I have been the one trying to unjam it. Bolt assembly will not go completely forward at all. No matter how hard I push. Wont come back either. I pulled on the changing handle so hard I thought I was going to break it. I have to totally take the upper off the lower and either use a flat head screw driver or a thick knife to pry the bolt assembly back. Once I get it out of the upper I check it out and can't find anything wrong. After reinstalling bolt assembly and after putting assembly back into upper it all works correctly. Before yesterday friend shot nothing but Wolf and the like in the rifle. After the first time it happen (which was the last time he shot) he bought Winchester 55gr fmj. This is what he shot yesterday and had the same problem. It happened yesterday after about 30 rounds. The time before I have no idea 200 rounds maybe. I doubt that it has been cleaned correctly since it has left my house. I replaced the bolt with one of my extra BCM bolts. Need my bolt back. Anyone have any ideas?????????????????????

Thanks Casey

Good evening,

I have a question regarding my Aimpoint Pro. It's my first so I have no other experience with them but I've always wondered since buying it over a year ago if mine functions properly and if so why they are made this way. It's a great sight for me and I have no complaints but I'm curious and I've never asked anyone...........[:)]

I realize that the first four settings on the AP are for night vision and therefore I wouldn't see them (assuming so as I've never used NV either). However, the 5th level is so dull even on a white wall that I've never used it, even the 6th level isn't very bright. Even inside while dry firing against a wall I still leave it on level 7 or 6 if I'm practicing trigger control close to a wall. On level 8 I begin to see a red ring around the outside of the tube and the highest level washes the view out in a red light when used inside. When I shoot outside in the direct sunlight the dot loses much of its brightness so I usually use it on max. A couple of weeks ago I was shooting with my brother and it was virtually impossible to see the dot at the highest setting. (I did change out the battery after a year though and did find the highest two levels to be clearly brighter especially max.)

So I have two questions:

1. Are the brightness levels in the conditions I described normal? I assume they are, but what are the low-brightness dot levels used for? I'm assuming for low light shooting? They just seem so low, but I've never used it in low light so I don't know. And does the dot lose much of its brightness in full sunlight? I really only use two levels (sometimes three)- highest shooting outside and level 6/7 for dry-firing inside. Is this what most people do?

2. The specs say that there are 4 NV settings and 6 daylight settings with one being extra bright. My AP however only has 9 clicks on the dial, which to me would be 9 levels not 10. Is the "off" setting actually a NV setting so that "clicks" don't correspond to levels?

Thanks for the education.

Christian

Well, long story short, i suppose i didnt ask quite enough questions before i ordered the rifle.
I ordered a 16 inch Palmetto State Armory rifle kit:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...rifle-kit.html
With the full magpul MOE setup...
*Rant* well i planned to mount a short to mid range scope on it, and i was told by the seller "Yes, if you order the front and rear mbus sights the upper will be equiped to mount them and it will NOT have the standard a2 style front sight" well i called to verify after placing the order and a new person answered, he informed me the sights will be sent, but it will have the a2 gas block still, which makes me paying for the sight option ABSOLUTELY pointless. *END RANT*

So basically, i am calling back monday to most likely cancel the mbus sights all together and ask for a refund on that portion. I was wondering what setup you all on the forum would recommend? I need a Gas block sight with fold down, and a rear fold down. i plan to utilize a Millet DMS-1 in most cases but i prefer irons on the range.

(or better off getting a railed gas block and rail mounted flip ups?)

Brands ive looked at:
Yankee Hill Machine
GG&G
BCM

Anyone got any recomendations? i would prefer something i can do myself with basic tools, ive heard good and bad about all of the above companies so i have no idea what to look at.

Thanks for the info!

Bandoliers have been out for a very long time, whats odd is that they haven't really been tapped into by many if any manufacturers for awhile. Grey Ghost Gear has a new bandolier ready to hold Magpul PMAGs in a few different sizes. I was skeptical of how well they would hold up using even this heavy elastic gear, but was told it was built to last, and that they mags wouldn't slip around. I played around, and they felt snug enough, but to really check, I hung it up in my cruiser and drove around for multiple shifts. I expected this would allow me to see the magazines shift and slide as I hit bumps. Roughly 40 hours into this eval, they still hadn't moved. Wearing the bandolier around induced no movement either. While I have no doubt they can shift if you are low crawling, the idea and design is pretty solid, and seems to work well.

I'll point out these are designed to work with MAGPUL PMAGS, and not intended for slick side USGI magazines. If you are using USGI mags, I'm sure you would need some skate tape or something similar to keep them held securely in place.

The Benelli Light Attachment Mount (BLAM) From Corps Technology Group is very straight forward and simple in what it does. If you have a Benelli, it gives you a solid mount for a light or laser (or combo). While you can dispute the use of a laser on a shotgun, you can't dispute that up close and personal, or while wearing a gas mask that the laser will be zeroed close enough for most "government work". There is no question that a light is just about mandatory for any working weapon, as using a hand held light with any long gun is close to painful. If you have need of a 1913 attachment point for a light on your Benelli, check this one out, its well worth your time.

The Samson Evolution Series 9-EX” Rail stands out from the rest of the rails in the Samson offering for a few reasons. First, the tubular with slightly angular feel of the rail handles great and fits good in the hands of everyone I know. Secondly, the cutout for the rail allows for a folding gas block sight, fixed FSB or for an adjustable gas block similar to the offerings of Noveske Rifleworks or several other companies.

The aluminum rail is easy to install, and basic hand tools will get the job done. Cut off the Delta ring, and slap on the two part heat sinks and you are ready to slide the rail into place. Instructions from Samson MFG are available on Youtube.com just in case you get worried you may be doing something wrong.

If you are looking for a setup that isn't a clone of what everyone else has, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

The Fortis Rail Attachment Point is a 6061 aluminum hard coat anodized, made in the USA, anti rotation sling mount. While that is a mouth full to say, in use, the Fortis RAP is an extremely small unit which takes up minimal space on your rail. These are selling for around $20, and my feeling is that they are well worth it. My personal preference is mounting it on the top rail in front of my optic, but you can attach yours however you enjoy slinging your weapon most.

5.56mm hunting upper discussion

I will be moving to GA shortly, and want to put together an upper for hunting, mostly of hogs, coyotes, and maybe deer. For several reasons I won't...

I will be moving to GA shortly, and want to put together an upper for hunting, mostly of hogs, coyotes, and maybe deer. For several reasons I won't discuss here, AR hunting in Ohio has been impractical for me. A secondary application will be some minor target shooting at moderate distances up to maybe 400m. Budget is a concern but I don't have a set limit. I am not looking to discuss other calibers outside of 5.56mm as my wife is not comfortable shooting them.

I understand that muzzle velocity has very little difference between 20" and 16" barrels, only around 120 fps. For this reason, unless someone can sway me, I think I will go with a 16" barrel for maneuverability and price. Is a SS barrel necessary for these intended purposes? I want to use a mid-length gas system, if only because my wife who will hunt with me is a smaller woman and appreciates the slightly reduced recoil impulse and handling.

Second, I don't plan to add many attachments to this rifle, except potentially a light, so I was planning to either use a Rainier Arms/Samson 12" Evolution rail or a Troy Alpha rail in either 11" or 13". This means a LPGB under the rail of course. I am currently leaning towards the Evolution rail. If I did get the Alpha, would it be worth it to get one with the built in front sight?

Finally, looking for a decent optic for this. I have to admit, my personal experience is in combat optics so I don't really have a starting point, but I was looking at the Nikon M223 series with a non-BDC reticle.

Any help or recommendations nailing down components and mfg's is welcome. Thanks for the help gents.

Between the three of us who fired the new Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm Shield, there is over 75 years of training and experience, and the general feeling for this pistol was all the same. It conceals like a compact firearm, but fires like a full size weapon. While this is fractionally larger than my Kahr P9, it carries about the same and there is no different in how it feels regarding weight on my belt. The difference between shooting the 9mm Shield and the P9 is night and day, and I'll probably be picking up a M&P Shield to replace my smallest of carry weapons in the future.

I recently bought a Bobro mount for my aimpoint compm4. I have the tall larue mount already. This was just a compulsory purchase to try something new. I honestly just did not consider needing a spacer for the mount. The spacer that came with the original aimpoint mount gives an absolute co-witness.
So my question is do they make a spacer tall enough to give lower 1/3 sight witness? Or am I just going to have to learn to appreciate absolute co-witness?

It seems like a few times a year we have a new gun lube that comes out with claims to make your action slick as snot, eliminate all wear, prevent rust, cure male pattern baldness, etc. There are several products that actually seem to work well, like Weaponshield and Slip2000. Like many folks, I've got various samples on the bench and will often use what is either free or just handy at the moment. More or less, I'm of the opinion that just about any gun lube will keep the weapon running as long as the lube is actually there in ample supply. I've used motor oil and ATF successfully as well. I'm sure the argument can be made that gun oils are heavily researched and formulated to address specific needs.

With that said, I'm curious if other folks are mixing up their own preferred lube to use in firearms. Ed's Red and Bug Juice variations are all over the internet. I've recently tried a couple recipes, more out of curiosity than anything. I've mixed the following:

2 parts Castrol Synthetic Oil, 10W50

1 part Catrrol Synthetic ATF

3 parts Lucas HD Oil Stabilizer

1 part Kroil Penetrating Oil

2 parts Royal Purple Synthetic Oil, 10W50

2 parts Castrol Synthetic ATF

3 parts Lucas HD Oil Stabilizer

1 part Hoppes #9

1 part Marvel Mystery Oil

Let's get this out of the way. No, in not a chemist. No, I'm not too cheap to buy gun specific products.

Looks like a padded/molle pouch which makes me think it is used to carry something breakable like NVGs.
I don't think it is S.I. but I've seen several pictures of US Marines carrying it in Afghanistan.
I would like to know who makes it and where i can find it.

I'm looking for something that may not exist, have searched high and low, and thought I'd try one more time here. I'm looking for a light weight vest, something like a shotgunner might use, that will hold 6 AR Mags, securely, maybe 3 per side. I don't need a M.O.L.L.E, full combat, or SWAT/LEO rig. Something light, for hot humid days would be great. Some of our "ranges" here, are actually spread out over acres of farm land, and I just need a simple vest to carry spare loaded mags. If anyone is aware of any manufacturer that makes something like this, I'd really appreciate some guidance. Thanks ahead for any help.
ARES Defense is proud to introduce the ARES-15 MCR; our newest platform for professional shooters who demand performance and mission flexibility from their weapons!
The semi-automatic ARES-15 MCR (Mission Configurable Rifle) is identical in virtually every way to our select-fire ARES-16 MCR Military/Law Enforcement rifle, but can be readily purchased through your local Federal Firearms Dealer.

Key features include reliable mid-length gas-piston operation, a (3 second) quick-change barrel, extreme-duty breech bolt, vented high performance barrel extension, and 10-second upgrade to dual-feed operation with optional user installed belt-feed module.

The entire weapon field strips in seconds with a cartridge as the only tool necessary. Ergonomic and intuitive, the ARES-15 MCR is readily stored in an optional, high-impact Pelican briefcase for security and low profile missions.

ARES-15 MCR Details

Caliber: 5.56x45mm NATO

Barrel: Our MCR & Shrike 5.56 Quick-Change barrels are turned and chambered in-house on precision MAZAK CNC turning centers from high quality 4140 and 4150V barrel blanks. Muzzle threads are cut to ½ x 28 TPI to accept most common muzzle devices and silencer mounts. Each high-strength and vented proprietary barrel extension is then carefully assembled to a barrel and torqued to exact specifications, and each barrel assembly is then individually checked to ensure proper head spacing. Once they are cleaned and inspected, the chambers and bores are hard-chrome lined for durability and corrosion resistance by an outside plating company that specializes in processing military rifle and machine gun barrels. Upon return to our facility, each barrel is subjected to additional quality control measures before being completed with a rich dark manganese phosphate finish prior to installation of the gas block. Gas blocks are secured with twin 2/0 taper pins and barrels are then fitted with a crush washer and A2 flash hider. All MCR and Shrike 5.56 barrels are fully interchangeable.

Upper: Our MCR and Shrike 5.56 upper receiver bodies are precision machined in-house from 7075-T651 billet and are Type III, Class II hard coat anodized black in accordance with MIL-Spec MIL-A-8625 for maximum durability and corrosion resistance.

Bolt: Our premium bolts are precision machined in-house from a proprietary aerospace alloy and heat treated to exacting specifications. Our proprietary 6-lug design provides more shear strength than traditional AR type bolts, and also features tangential radii at the tips and root of each lug to minimize the stresses that cause premature failures in the “square-cut” legacy design. The MCR/Shrike 5.56 bolt design was developed for sustained fire applications and is considered overbuilt by most rifle standards, providing a level of safety that is absent in most other rifle designs.

Barrel Extension: Our specially engineered barrel extensions are at the heart of our quick-change barrel design and are precision machined in-house from a proprietary aerospace alloy and heat treated to exacting specifications. Our proprietary design provides more shear strength than traditional AR type barrel extensions, and also features radii at the tips and root of each lug to minimize the stresses that cause premature failures in “square-cut” legacy barrel extensions. The MCR/Shrike 5.56 barrel extension was developed for sustained fire applications and features a special “blowout” relief in the event of a catastrophic bore obstruction, providing a level of safety that is absent in most other weapon designs.

Bolt Carrier: Each high-performance MCR bolt carrier is precision machined in-house from aerospace materials and heat treated to our exact specifications. The increased mass of the MCR carrier and increased dwell section of the bolt cam slot ensure a longer lockup time prior to extracting the cartridge case. This robust component was developed for sustained fire applications and features a shrouded firing pin area to protect the firing pin head from potential transverse loading by the hammer.

I've designed and simmed out in some engineering programs a new operating system design for a belt-fed automatic weapon, and the next step is physical prototyping. What sorts of paperwork is required to actually make this without getting a long vacation on Uncle Sam's dime?

My intent is to go into military sales, but only if it works as well as the sims say it should. It seems to be easier to get the permits as a corporation, but I don't want to have the permits specific to a corporation only to have the design not hold up to real-world stresses and have the corporation go insolvent. I can't even understand the paperwork required to create a new machine gun as an individual, at times it seems like it's not actually possible to do legally.

I guess I'm just looking for some advice from people with time in the business and/or experience dealing with the BATFE. Thanks.

I was recently contacted by Christian of Christian's Custom Kydex to do a review of one of his holsters. We agreed on a Glock 19 model, since that is what I typically carry off-duty.

Christian sent me photos of the holster while it was being produced, which was impressive to see the product take shape.

When I received the holster, I was pleasantly surprised in how sturdy and well finished the holster was. As soon as I tried it on I was also happy with how comfortable and concealable the holster was.

The belt loops are large enough to fit a typical riggers belt and there was enough curve to the holster that it fit to the side of my waist without causing the gun and holster to "print" on the outside of my shirt.

I have worn this holster on many occasions since I received it, many times for 12+ hours at a time. I had to keep checking to see if I was actually wearing the holster a few times because I almost forgot that I was wearing it.

So for right now, until I can find something that I like more, this will be my everyday (off-duty) carry holster. And though this is a fairly new company, I think that Christian's Custom Kydex deserves some attention.

Additionally, Christian made me some custom Kydex "skins" that can be attached to the outside of the holster to change the exterior color. Unfortunately, the "skins" did not make this batch of photos. I will attempt to get them added in the near future.

You can find Christian's Custom Kydex on the web at: http://www.christianscustomkydex.com/index.html
