    .458 SOCOM

I'm considering building one, as sort of a "swan song". If I'm correct, the lower does not have to be modified, only the upper receiver port needs to be milled out for clearance, and of course the BCG, and barrel installed for .458 Cal. Also I'm wondering about magazines too?

Thanks ahead for any advice you can give me.

    Thanks, FT

Since you're a Magpul worshipper, you can use PMAGs for .458

CMT makes their UPUR-3 for .458 compatible uppers.

First, I'll begin by paying homage to Magpul.."hail Magpul". I'll go check them out. Barrels too.

Just wait till TRIGGRCON if you're coming. I'm sure Jeff will get you a smoking deal on one or 10.

Just booked a $2500 plus fishing trip to Florida in May, and still need to have my Poymer 80 .357 Sig, so I can wait a couple of months to complete my homework then start buying parts.

Approx. 1.5 years ago, but I just finished an LR-10 aboutt 2 mos. ago that had been sitting around waiting to be finished, so that counts, I think. By the time I finish paying for the lodge and other expenses related to fishing, (refreshments and incidentals, I'll have to borrow money just to "think" about a 458 SOCOM. I'll have to get a sign that says: Will work for Ammo..... Oh, then there's the Polymer 80 .357 Sig project, yeah that counts too, I think.

Wilson combat has a decent selection of .458 parts as well.

FWIW, there was a thread on the 458Socom forum some time ago about PTG reverse engineering a chamber reamer and some companies using it for their barrels. Word was that they still worked fine most of the time, but with the larger loads (IE subs I think) they ran into issues with chambering. Here is a list of who was using the original reamer Marty made, and who was using the reverse engineered one. The specs had to be altered juuuuust enough to not cause copyright/patent/whatever issues. The list hasn't been updated in some time, but food for thought. I'm sure more info could be dug up if someone were that interested in it.

I used all Tromix stuff, mainly because I met Tony Rumore from Tromix and got my Saiga12 and Saiga308 done by him... and took him fishing here in Alaska twice. But BattleKitty458 puuuurrrrrrrrrs like an evil kitty hopped up an too much Redbull.
