    Barrel length why 16 inches?

Anybody have a good reason as to how the 16 inch barrel became the standard for consumer AR rifles? I know somebody will suggest because the Military chose 16 inch. Even so, why? Tiny difference in weight, more nimble, easier to swing around in combat. Sure longer length means higher cost, but there are gains associated with that cost, right?

Checked his IP, not from the usual Pakistan/Russia/Indonesia troll locations. Maybe he just couldn't find his other thread? We'll go ahead and lock this one down.
