Everyone is getting in on the 1.93" or higher bandwagon for clearance over laser/illuminator units.

As more and more people get into NV, I think it only makes sense to offer 1.93 mounts.

But definitely still a niche market.

Put a dbal-d2 on your top rail with a 1-x optic behind it and you'll want a 1.93" mount. Even a T2 loses about 30-35% of the view in a 39mm mount.

    Been there, done that.

Doesn't really effect much, also if you're running nvg, the probability you'll be using an optic over the ir laser with helmet mounted nvg is unlikely. If you are then you probably need to flush out your setup better.

Getting a rail mounted nvg/thermal device to work in conjunction with your optic is best. If you do that having a laser isn't that important.

A rail mounted NVG/Thermal is definitely not best in my experience...albeit somewhat limited with NVG. I'm getting NODs later this year. Every time I've used other people's NOD's they were way more useful than a weapon mounted platform.

My point was that there are two applications, helmet mounted/laser aimed or rail mounted/optic aimed OR self contained system (see flr ptr233). When people go NOD's use with rail mounted optics, that's super shitty and in a real world application nearly unusable. This has been my experience, these have been the experiences conveyed to me by people with much more experience with this type of thing.

The reason for head mounted night vision combined with a rail mounted optic is passive use. If the opposing force is known to have night vision capabilities, turning on your laser shows them exactly where you are. And it's almost impossible to get a PVS-14 on your head behind a 1.5" high optic.

I know from experience it's not easy to use this way, but it's still a valid use case. This video is from the last night shoot we had. You can see how obvious it would be to pinpoint someone using an illuminator.

Just FYI for you guys, Mercon is going to pull the plug on the 1-6 optic. The remaining inventory will be blown out in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for pricing.

Any problem with the optic, or low sales? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just gotta wonder how off-putting that purple anodizing really was in terms of sales impact.
