Wanted to test non-precision ammo through my Rainier build
So I accumulated some ammo, swapped over a 10 power scope to help out, and got to shooting.
16” Rainier Ultramatch Mod 2, intermediate gas.
I fired two five round groups of each; they were all basically identical, I just wanted to confirm the performance one way or the other. If the 2nd group had widened or narrowed, I would’ve shot more groups
First group was my handloaded 55gr since they shoot soft and fairly well
55gr Federal/AE FMJ
55gr WWB
62gr M855 Green tip
62gr HP Golden Bear brass plated steel
62gr Wolf HP, steel cased
77gr Magtech/CBC OTM ammo.
The 77gr CBC is a great value (usually around 75 cents).
I’ve been seeing the AE/Federal 55gr FMJs for 27-29 cents each which is great for brass ammo.
The 62gr Golden Bear shot very soft; my rifle functioned but it was a very light cycle. It was more accurate than M855, and the brass plating and copper bullet would not be hard on a chamber/barrel
The 55gr WWB was dirty and shot poorly. Not worth it
