Exclamation Wanted to test non-precision ammo through my Rainier build

So I accumulated some ammo, swapped over a 10 power scope to help out, and got to shooting.

16” Rainier Ultramatch Mod 2, intermediate gas.

I fired two five round groups of each; they were all basically identical, I just wanted to confirm the performance one way or the other. If the 2nd group had widened or narrowed, I would’ve shot more groups

First group was my handloaded 55gr since they shoot soft and fairly well

    55gr Federal/AE FMJ

    55gr WWB

    62gr M855 Green tip

62gr HP Golden Bear brass plated steel

    62gr Wolf HP, steel cased

    77gr Magtech/CBC OTM ammo.

The 77gr CBC is a great value (usually around 75 cents).

I’ve been seeing the AE/Federal 55gr FMJs for 27-29 cents each which is great for brass ammo.

The 62gr Golden Bear shot very soft; my rifle functioned but it was a very light cycle. It was more accurate than M855, and the brass plating and copper bullet would not be hard on a chamber/barrel

The 55gr WWB was dirty and shot poorly. Not worth it

I know you shoot groups way better than I do, based on other groups you've posted, so it's nice to see that you get similar performance out of the Federal that I do. Specifically that one god-damn flier that always shows up!

In both groups there was one like that.

I wonder if it’s a deviation in the powder quantity or something...while my rifle wasn’t strapped in a sled, I did have it in as stable as physically possible otherwise.

I have shot Federal/AE 55gr a good distance before (500yds) without issue. It’s good quality factory ammo

Was the Winchester white box the 5.56 or the .223 load? I've been pleasantly surprised with my initial results with the .223

PPU 75 gr Match has been one of my better accuracy - price ratio factory loads. Not as accurate as several 77 gr SMK factory loads, but not too far behind and a lot cheaper. Of course, every barrel has it's own preferences so YMMV

It was the 5.56 labeled box. I mean there’s definitely worse stuff to get out there but for the same price, if not cheaper, one could do better

I've shot one box of 55gr Wolf and one box of 55gr PMC bronze through mine. Both did similarly (unimpressive). I blame the ammo for both.

75gr BTHP Hornady Black is sub moa if I do my part. I am seeing $0.70 ish a round.

I reload 75gr Hornady bullets with 8208 XBR. Good bullets
