Differentiating uppers of different caliber
I'm sure this has been brought up before but I'm curious now that I'm building a non-5.56 upper.
How do you (if you do) make it obvious which upper is which if they're similar? Both uppers will be similar. Especially to someone who's not such an ammosexual.
What about mags? I take friends shooting and I want to make it clear which is which.
I think I'm going to do all FDE mags are .300blk and black will be 5.56. Also considering having the .300blk upper cerakoted FDE.Ground Defense 1, Blade Defense 1, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Aliance Shoot House, When Things Go Bad, YSINTG, Carbine 1, DART Medical, NRA Range Safety Officer

I have laser engraved port doors (interior only). I also have marked BCGs.
When I take the 300blk to the range I don’t take any 223/556 ammo. And vice versa.

I just take a flashlight and look at the barrel markings.

Yeah, I've thought the same thing about the 6.8 SPC II I just finished. It looks just like an everyday AR 5.56. For now I'm just going to put a tag on it for storage in the safe. That way if something happened to me, whoever gets all my stuff won't try to chamber a 5.56 in it. I'm going to do something more obvious and permanent, when I figure out what to do. Inside the dust cover is cool, but not overly obvious.

FT, these guys will locate it anywhere you want on the cover. Only $16 for the door and engraving.

Another vote for the Wilson Combat dust covers. I now use them on all my alternative caliber uppers, mainly so when I die my family can figure it out.
