    which caliber?

Which caliber for a new upper thumper round, and why? .458 Socom, .50 beowulf, or .450 bushmaster. This would be a once in a while shot rifle, also used for big New York deer, maybe a blackbear. All are adaquate for this I know.

    I'd go with the .50, just because it's a .50.

Why not try a .308? POF or DPMS?

I guess I wanted an upper to fit my ar 15 lower but still has enough power for big game. I didn't want to have to get a whole ar 10. The three I mentioned are pretty good for woods deer where shots can be from 15 feet to longer range. The 450 Bushmaster has a little longer range than the other two. Plus the Hornady bullet is pretty decent for hunting, or so the company advertises. The .50 is a big bullet, the .458 is the huge array of bullits round, and the .450 has pretty good power, a little more range. Still being able to use standard ar mags w/ the .458 means alot considering I live in NY where preban mags still exist. Tough choice.

if you are looking for a new upper, but want to use an AR-15 lower, try 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC--I think they both it the mag well, but need new magazines vice needing an entirely new lower like .308 or above (save the Beowulf 50 cal) .
