S&W Model 24-3: Model of 1950 reintroduction

#wheelgunwednesday! S&W Model 24-3: Model of 1950 reintroduction. Prior to 1957 this was known as 44 HE 4th, 1950 target, which of course changed to the numerical stamping of the Model number 24 in ‘57. Discontinued a decade later in 1967. Reintroduced in 1983, this particular gun was manufactured in 1984. Blued finish, Target Stocks, Target Trigger & Hammer, with a 6 1/2” barrel. Included the original box with all the tools and paperwork. The finish is 98%+. A great find and welcome addition to the Revolver case.

Not yet; just put in some time with Snap Caps. Very smooth! Looking forward to some range time, seeing how it shoots next to my S&W 696.

I just turned 50 a couple of months ago. I’m still love the “latest and greatest” items, especially things like the B&T 10mm, ARs, new optics. I’ve probably got 5+ ARs worth of parts and accessories waiting to be assembled. But right now it’s older revolvers and 1st-3rd Gen S&W semiautos - especially rare models - that have my attention and $$$. Maybe it it is age, hopefully a little but of wisdom.

I am old, and I still love them. Everytime I see one out of Jerry R's collection I want to cry. A lot of years ago, in my financially "leaner" days, I have owned a LOT of them (wheel guns) but never could afford to have them all at once. Basically had to sell one to buy one. A lot of nice guns went through my hands. You guys are still finding beautiful examples of them. Hell, here in N. KY, it's either they dropped off of the earth and no longer exist, or someone wants a five gallon bucket of gold for them.

Anyway, the Smith is a great find.

Good observation; this gun is made for target shooting, so things like the front sight, trigger, hammer, and grips are all exaggerated to some degree.

I mentioned in Mail Call that in bought some Ahrends Grips while they are still available and haven’t ballooned in price yet. I decided to buy a couple of Maple grips because they have beautiful figure in the wood. This might not be everyone’s taste, but I actually like the contrast of the dark blueing and the lighter maple hue. Comments are welcome.

Thanks for that! I think so, too. I was surprised that my wife, of all people, expressed a negative critique. She thought the contrast was too great. Hell, I was just happy she took the time to notice.
