    Field expedient tripod saddle

I found out I needed a tripod for an upcoming match. It’s one of the few things I’ve not gotten due to never needing one before as well as the expense

My wife had a photography tripod she dug out of the attic since nothing will ship in time for the match date

I needed a “saddle” for it so I did some googling and got to work

I cut the bell/coupling off a piece of 2” PVC, which is around 2.25” OD. I cut it about 60-70%/30-40% off length ways. Found a bolt in the garage that match the camera tripod thread pitch, drilled a pilot hole then used the grade 5 bolt as a make shift tap.

I painted it then used some old carpet as a liner

I’ve got a backup iPhone clamp that I was able to turn and act more like a traditional squared off saddle in the event this one breaks or something but I think this’ll hold up fine for a one day event ~100rds or so

I love it. Finding a solution with found parts under a deadline is so satisfying.

Imagine the legs are substantially stronger on the PR tripod?

Spent about half an hour with it going from prone to standing, opening the legs up to the various positions. My only small gripe is with the swivel/rotation adjustment knob is kinda small. A wing nut would be a little easier to turn/tighten

I think mine was on Amazon

Yeah the deathgrip is a lot more capable than the one I’d gotten to hold me over....I needed it for a match and it was the only one I could get in time. I’ll use the smaller/lighter Havoc for hunting and as a spare at matches
