Feared Forum Fini
Sheesh, do you ever find no new posts for days and worry WEVO is no more? Followed by a head smack when you see you have been logged out? The worst part is that it’s happened before, but the aged noodle runs at dial-up speed these days.

Forums are dying. Everyone is on FB groups. I've started to get away from the FB groups though, most are just shit talking toxic places.
Stick and I will always post pictures here, even if in 5 years we are the only ones to see them.

I wish the forums weren't dying because FB just irks me in so many ways. But such is life in the instant gratification world. But the one thing that has this place continuing to post is the lack of internet shaming found on other, more "self-important" forums (yeah, I'm thinking of one in particular, and it does NOT start with an "A"). I like how people can post something that they like and explain that without judgement, even if it doesn't fit with the majority's views.

The only FB group I visit is our private family group. I post on my site a few times per year. Just something funny or cute.

Stick, John Hwang, and I keep this site going mostly because well... I keep advocating it's worth the time and money to keep it up for you guys. And really, you need a fall back location to keep talking about firearms. We've all seen how Zuck has shut down free speech on Facebook, employed "fact checkers" to discredit anyone who doesn't agree with them, and have shut down groups with thousands of people, only because they were attempting to engage in legal transactions.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram have all shut down free speech. Tik Tok, it's odd to me, as they are somewhat less restrictive, except in the case of firearms. They are fine with videos of firearms being shot a range, but if it's a video of just a firearm. They will immediately take it down. Alternative social media, like MeWe, Vero, Parler, have so far failed to gain traction.
At some point I firmly believe firearm enthusiasts will all be kicked off of all social media platforms, but we can still fall back on forums as a last resort.

I recently deactivated my facebook all together. Odds are I won't be going back. I'm definitely on board for the forum setting.
I think one thing forums have that works against them is a lot of the time the same information is beaten to death until some new guy shows up asking questions.
It's not just guns, but camera forums and many other topics that basically experience 'repetition fatigue' among a lot of would be users.
I don't know the total solution but opening up a parler account to go along with the forum would be good.
Doing so would allow people to see gun porn in between their political news but would also keep the forum in the game.

I also think having some content that follows the format of The Gun Collective would help. Industry news, new product announcements, etc all done on a weekly basis would be cool. It might even be worth exploring a collaboration with that YouTube channel for timely news content to be explored here a bit more.
Who knows what the answer is but I don't think there is a lack of interest in firearms just not as much content that some people feel like they can/should engage with.

I deactivated my Facebook page. I had enough of their shenanigans. Been a month now and I am much happier.

Ya , most forums have been declining since Fakebook and such came out
But discussions get lost and more attitude then usual.. I don’t really frequent any of them much anymore
Look at wevo and 20k members.. seems like only a couple dozen post anymore..lol

That's the biggest issue with FB Groups. Discussions get lost, that's if they haven't de-evolved to shit posting, meme's, and GIF's, all of which I am guilty of. If you want to look up something older, the search function there sucks.
We will keep plugging along, you never know when Forums will get a revival!

I think things will pretty much pick back up once all this covid crap blows over. My only firearms related activity I've been involved with lately is a purchase of a new Franci Over/Under shotgun for some upland game hunting in a couple of months, if they don't get cancelled by covid. Ranges around here are open one day and closed the next because our governor can't decide whether he wants to kiss the rings of ultra libs, or stay with the Red state that gave him a chance to be a "moderate". Anyway, I check in and out and read posts, but don't have much to contribute, if anything. I'm optimistic about a huge pick up in activity in the future. I normally just frequent one other forum, non-firearm related, where most of the activity in it can be done in a spare room or whatever. If anything, activity there is roaring.
This "lock down" has sucked most of the life out of me and I've become a bid underwhelmed with the world in general. I'll get over it.
