    Sig MCX Spear

So, who here will be the first to get the new Sig MCX Spear in .277 Fury

    MSRP is $8k

    https://www.sigsauer.com/mcx-spear.html

I'm actually interested, but I'll give it a few years because of both budget, and, well, because Sig.

I do appreciate their pace of innovation, though.

I predict .277 Fury will be about as popular as .277 Wolverine.

For me personally I don't see the point of this round at all. I really don't know what problems it solves for any normal use.

If I was guarding a post in some sandbox country, yeah, absolutely. If you really want to make sure the bad guys go down on the first shot, then sure. But outside of that kind of application it doesn't appeal to most people (or at least me).

Unless I'm totally missing something this is a niche among niche cartridges.

It might appeal to those people who just want a lot of horsepower but all things considered I would not want to get into this thing and especially what appears to be a reliance on specialty factory ammo.

Well, the Army contracted with Winchester to buy $20M worth of the new 6.8 round, presumably with the final specification depending on whether Sig or General Dynamics/Beretta wins the NGSW contract.

So, if this happens, our kids will look at 7.62x51 the same way we look at 30-06

Wonder how it's gonna compare to the MCX-SPEAR in cost at launch.

Interesting, I would have expected Beretta to be on point with product launch: https://www.beretta.com/en-us/beretta-ngsw/

Gotta love that both companies are already promising civilian versions

WTF is that buttplug on the end of the barrel?!? At least the SIG will (maybe) take a .308 barrel.

A guy on another forum is insisting that .308 will be a thing of the past soon... Well, if the past is any indicator, it's not going anywhere soon!

And the contract goes to Sig

    https://www.army.mil/article/255827/...eapon_contract

Also note that Vortex won the optics contract as part of that.

So, what about this gun will benefit the average swingin' dick GI?
    More recoil
    Heavier
    Less ammo capacity/heavier ammo

Granted, it looks like a good replacement for the 249, but this is supposed to be the gun for everybody. Lots of analogizing to the M-14 going around social media...

Of course not much else since the M-16 has made sense. How much longer til dual equipped fighters get the M-17? Or is it going to remain an officer gun?
