    New ELD-VT bullets from Hornady

My first impression is that these have a potential to make things very interesting. Imagine shooting a 62 grain bullet out of 10.5...the first video talks about it at the 1:18 mark.

    Likewise.

In 5.56, just based on my really rough estimates, out of a 10.5 the 62 grainers could top 2600fps.

There are a number of other applications as well for 6mm and 30 cal.

The .308 grain bullets are 174 grain, but the actual size of the bullet is about equal to a 205 grain, which would open up a whole world of options for 300 BLK. I am hoping to find out the min fragmentation speed.

Overall, reloading these would be somewhat similar to loading solid copper bullets.

Well, possibly some of my hopes were dashed, for now. I am listening to a podcast about these and they said the 62 grain would be to long for mag length in an AR. I will have to confirm if that is actually the case or not.

So far it seems confirmed. The .22 cal version cannot be shot out of an AR as they said 'it's too long for any mag length loads'. Also it can only be shot out of .223 bolt actions that have 1:7 twist. But hey, it can be shot of of the new .22 ARC.

It's only the most popular platform and cartridge on the planet.... that they totally ignored.

Excitement turned to disappointment in not very long.

They’d be smart to make a 53 or 55gr version that loads to mag length for ARs

Higher BC than a 55gr VMax

Is a .270 ARC next so we finally achieve 6.8 SPC performance out of an AR-15 size platform? Oh, wait....
