Bill to make Suppressors non NFA items
Has anyone heard about this "SHUSH" bill to reclassify suppressors as non NFA accessories? I just came across it by accident. Read here: https://www.marshall.senate.gov/news...pressor-rules/
I've put off buying suppressors several time as the years have gone by just due to the hassle and costs plus waiting time, NFA transporting regs (out of state) etc..
If this bill will gain any traction I'd guess prices will skyrocket as demand will outstrip supply due to over-the-counter availability, due to deregulation and popularity, at least until supply catches up with demand. Again I'm just guessing. And I'm sure all of the left wing states will try to pass their own bans due to the "Hollywood depiction" of a suppressor going "pphhhtttt" out of the barrel of a weapon. What are your thoughts, will it pass? Will it create more hassles than there already are in owning them? Or what ever?
it would be cool to own a few, without the legal hassles and tax stamps.

This has been introduced multiple times already but in the past it was just a token act by someone in the House. There have been numerous other bills as well with other names that are similar.
This time, at least in theory, we have all three branches so it could be feasible. Also the environment is totally different now. Now it wouldn't be a stretch to eliminate the ATF all together. If they do that (which is being discussed) declassifying those items could easily be part of that process. If they just nuke the ATF those underlying laws are still there.
Whether or not it gets through is anyone's guess but like I said, in the world of DOGE it's not a stretch, especially in the wake of the last 4 years and the blatant abuses by that agency.

I think the AFT saw the writing on the wall when it acted to speed up approvals. Improvement of service? I guarantee that thought never crossed there mind. Justification of existence? Perhaps. The volumes purchased is telling that many find this more palatable. Remove the tariff and purview and I’ll buy more. Until then, my single multi-cal hits the spot.

What's crazy about suppressors is that some European countries with very strict gun laws require them on hunting rifles in many areas. Fellow farmers and neighbors consider the rifles report as a nuisance thus the laws. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath that they will be de-regulated here anytime in the near future. "Experts", like AOC, Pelosi, Schumer and a cast of dozens would go apeshit.

Hey FT, just jump in the water already! Wait times are crazy low now and for suppressors, there isn't a travel notification requirement.
All that said, I doubt the NFA is going anywhere.

I don't think it's going anywhere unfortunately. I hope, and I think this is the best chance we're going to get but I think it's going to flop.
I think the closest we're going to get is removing the tax. MAYBE have them go something like a Form 4473 AFTER you submit photo and fingerprints. That way they're still getting all the info from you that they want, and they stay on the registry.Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. I didn't think there was ever a requirement for suppressors. For SBRs, MGs, and DDs (?...I think) it's still required.
Unless something changed in the last 12-18 months, as I haven't bothered to keep up with it since I haven't had the need to leave the state with my cans.

I have not heard of any changes to the notification system. Suppressors, no need to notify anyone. SBRs same as before.
I've never tried or had the need to take either item out of state but the notification thing really does suck.

So dumb. I live close enough to the Ohio border that there is a range I go to once in a while. Would be nice to be able to take whatever I want.

Hopefully we get some stuff passed with the new Trump administration...

I've kept an eye on these suppressor bills for years now, and while this one feels like it has a little more wind in its sails, I?m still not holding my breath. The idea of walking into a shop and picking one up like any other accessory sounds great, but we?ve seen promising bills stall out before. That said, with current eForm speeds being way better than the old days and no travel restrictions on cans, I finally jumped in a while back and haven?t regretted it. If this passes, awesome?but until then, the wait really isn?t as bad as it used to be.
