ar-15 gas block
my rifle has 2 gas blocks and the one that is the sight that holds the handgaurd on is threaded where the gas tube is suppose to go

sounds like you have a disapator/eliminator or "dissy" set-up

It could also be a CMMG. The make rifles with different sight radius' and carabine length gas system.
