It sucks that all the good classes are offered out west.

I live in DPRM (Dem. People's Rep. of Maryland), another communist stronghold, though not as bad as CA--used to live in Lakeside, CA about 12 years ago before I joined the Army.
I missed out on the Magpul Dynamics course in Culpepper, VA over Memorial Day--bad weekend to schedule a course, otherwise I would have been there.- Federalist22

C.K., thanks for sharing the link/review and photos.
Spartan Tactical/Jim Smith are indeed respected in the training community and anyone who has the opportunity to get in on their training is fortunate. I was curious as to some of the distances involved in the training. I got the impression that a lot of attention was on distances of 100 yards and greater, which certainly forces the shooter to focus on the fundamentals. Since this was listed as a patrol rifle class, was there also time covered on CQB type distances. While I might deploy my patrol rifle on containment at distances approaching 100 yards, it's not common. Most deployments are substantially closer, often at distances that officers commonly use pistols.

Most of the shooting on the move, turning to shoot and night shooting involved ranges of 30-5 yds. Most of the barricade work focused on Larue Sniper and MGM BC plates at 100, however we were free to shoot the other plates at longer range. But the "3/2/1" and "Walk Back" competitions all involved lonegr range shooting.

I would have love to been there, any class by Jim Smith, Paul Howe, Kyle lamb, Larry Vickers or Ken Hackathorn would be a good thing. Does Jim Smith get out to the west coast much?

Yeah he does..... John Fish lives here on So Calif. so it seems there is a class at the PALA Reservation about once a year. Jim was commenting this time about the near perfect weather in June at PALA, so I'm hoping for JUNE 2010... He comes to Oregon and Washington too...
