Thanks for the work, it's a very good review.

    Now for questions :

Do you know what the difference is between the T1 and T2 bullets?

You write:"there was no sealant on the bullets, nor were the primers crimped or sealed, which I don't think it is a big deal." why don't you consider it a big deal? I would have thought that at least getting the primers crimped and sealed would be good for ammo that was likely to be used "in extremis", likely to be carried around in loaded magazines and overall not kept in perfect conditions.

Was the brass annealed? would you consider that an important thing for "tactical" ammo?

For Military ammo, I would definitely want the crimped and sealed primers and sealed bullets, but unless I was going to be storing this ammo for an extended period of time, I don't see it as a big deal. The HSM 556-17T used the crimped primers for the longest time. I don't know when or why they switched. Sometimes they run out of the primed brass with the crimped primers and they just used what they had on hand. I'll check with them and find out.

As far as the T1 and T2 bullets, the T1 is longer/sleeker and has the better BC. The T2 bullet was created so it would work in the 1:9" twist barrels. It is shorter bullet. Here is a picture of them from Molon:

Here is Molon's review of the HSM 556-17T and the HSM 223-17T, which shows the sealed and crimped primers and the sealed bullets:

I just spoke with HSM and they changed it. They only come with sealed primers, but not crimped. Also they stopped sealing the bullets.

Unless my eyes deceive me, the FPD load uses the same T2 bullet.

So aside from concerns about slower twist barrels, is the T2 expected to have the same terminal effects as the T1?

The only ammo that uses the T2 bullet is the Hornady 556 75 GR TAP. All of the others use the T1. Terminal performance is the same. The difference is that the T1 bullets have a better BC for long range shooting.

My eyes did deceive me then

Thanks Paulo; learned quite a bit there.

Last question: is this T1 bullet the same one used in Black Hills Heavy match HP

I'd order a box of the 556-17T and the 223-17T and see which one shoots better. I'm going to order a box of the 223-17T this week to try out.
