Quick question about rifle stocks

Is an A2 stock the same as an A1 as far as the stock bodies go?

What I mean is, if picked up a complete lower that already had an A2 stock installed, could I simply take out the spacer and change the screw in the rear to make it an A1-length buttstock?

You take out the spacer and get an A1 screw. You can also use the the A2 buttplate assembly with the A1 stock. The A2 buttplate assembly is much better than the A1 buttplate assembly.

I just found a really good deal on a slightly-used LMT lower with a single stage trigger and an A2 stock.

I can't tell if that is an A1 or A2 stock.

I need the shorter of the two since I don't have super long arms and I'd like to keep the overall length as short as possible.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a carbine receiver extension and buffer required when using a carbine-length barrel? It seems to me that using a rifle-length receiver extension, with the longer spring and buffer would cause problems with a carbine-length gas system?

Are these systems interchangeable?

The A2 stock, with a carbine length barrel/gas sys will work.

Even if I had to run a carbine buffer and action spring, it would be possible in a rifle r/e with a spacer.

I'm not even sure which buffer I'll be running yet, I have a lot of research to do. I highly doubt I'm going to be sticking a rifle spring and buffer in it...

I'd try the rifle buffer and spring first. It should run fine.

That's what I'm gonna end up doing, since the lower already has rifle parts in it.

I've been reading a lot about 16" middies and the buffers people are running - seems a lot of shooters are liking standard carbine buffers with this barrel and gas system combo.

I don't know exactly how heavy a rifle buffer is, I just remember it being between H2 and H3 and that's why I was thinking the rifle buffer might be too heavy.

If I wanted to put a TA31RCO on a 16" middy, would I want the A4 or M4 reticle?

M4 reticle. The rifle buffer is in between the H2 and H3.
