FIrst initial, last name is fine...then city and state. State abbreviations are ok. Comma between city and state isn't needed. The lettering can be as small as 1/16th inch high.

Have a look at chapters 6 & 7 of the ATF National Firearms Act Handbook.

Just make sure that, if you're feeling inclined to get creative, any abbreviations you come up with for the city and state are officially recognized by some official/semi-official government entity like the Postal Service. NYC, NY would almost certainly pass the test, but BALTO, MD or other variations that are in more widespread use regionally (as opposed to nationally) might not. BALTO might actually be a poor example, but something like NOLA, LA could potentially fail the compliance test. When in doubt, it is always better to ask and get a written ruling in advance than to assume you'll be in the clear. BATFE has started paying more attention to engraving, as we've seen over the past few years with abbreviated trust names -- which are no longer authorized, if indeed they ever really were.

Minimum height 1/16th inch. Pretty tiny.

So... if you have an SBR with the trust name, City and State engraved on it, what do you do if you move to another town or city? Have it filled an re-engraved?

It's my understanding that the city and state is there to reflect where the SBR was manufactured. If you move, you don't need to change it because it was manufactured where you used to live.

Do you plan to assemble and test that lower prior to engraving and SBRing it?

You marking it as the "maker" and where it was made. No change is made to the engraving.
