Krebs Custom Guns AK

While here at Weapon Evolution we tend to stay focused on the AR platform, I had my hands on an impressive AK rifle today and I thought I’d share a couple of its neat features here. I’ll start by saying my knowledge of the AK platform is relatively limited.

This one came from Krebs Custom Guns (http://www.krebscustom.com). I’m sure many of you are familiar with Krebs Customs, but this was my first experience holding one of their creations.

When I pulled it from the box I immediately got the feeling that it was superior to other AKs I’ve handled. It just seemed more “finished.” Inspection of the receiver revealed that this AK was born in the Izhmash plant in Russia.



In addition to the Vltor butt stock and the magazine well flange, the rifle has two other features that add an incredible amount of functionality for their simplicity.



First is the Enhanced Safety. It’s modified with a cutout that holds the bolt to the rear. It also has an added tab that allows a right handed shooter to manipulate the safety with the trigger finger.



The modified magazine release features an added tab that allows a right handed shooter to use his trigger finger to release the magazine.



Both of these enhancements negate some of the reasons AK rifles haven’t appealed to me in the past. I don’t personally own any AK platform rifles, but I might have to reconsider and add a Krebs Custom AK to my collection.
