    DIY Kydex work- Flashlight holster

I'm a flashlight user and everyday carrier. I use one everyday for work to pre-trip my wheeler and a lot in the winter for plowing. I also use one at home constantly. (I always carry an HDS light with a Surefire backup.) While there are many ways to carry one I finally began making my own holsters out of Kydex. I made one today for a guy to mount his G2X on his ATS belt. I have the same flashlight on my Brokos belt but I didn't make the molle attachments on my own at the time. This was my first attempt. Anyone else work with Kydex?

That looks great. I would be interested in seeing more of your work.

Thank you Zero7one and thanks for asking.

Here are some others I've done.

An IWB PolyTac holster with a sweat shield. I hadn't applied the belt loops yet.

Here's a 6p with an HDS holster on a lanyard. I carry my HDS and my Izula/spare battery around my neck as I'm in overalls most of the winter and cannot get to my belt. The lanyard is woven with paracord (my other hobby) so that it can be very easily unraveled for use in an emergency with the shackles.

    Here's my personal rig:

Here are some prototypes I've been playing with............a little different.

And something a bit more interesting probably to some of you here- I've been working on a set of Kydex gear for a friend of mine from college who is now a detective. The handcuff case has been giving me fits! (-: I had to learn about handcuffs first (didn't know there were so many varieties!), how he wanted them oriented, then do some trial and error. This one has been a challenge I must admit. I'm getting closer but will do one more for him before he gets it. He gets a mag' carrier and holster too, both of which I'm working on.

I've tossed a lot of pieces and learned a bunch on the way. It's enjoyable but can be frustrating.

Looks great. Nice talent to have. The possibilities could be endless. Have you done any custom knife sheaths?

    Thanks Zero7One,

I've done only a few- one for my Izula, one for my Leatherman & Craftsman razor knife together and a few presents for family. There are endless possibilities- you're right. I find myself bending scrap pieces and cut pieces for many things.............not many make it into the realm of useful though.

There's a new YouTube channel by "PhillyEDC" on Kydex work. It's really unique though as he (Jon) is completely "open" about how he makes everything. He made a 50 min video of himself making a holster and talking about materials and equipment he uses. It's a great tutorial. I picked up a few pointers from him that really helped. If you're interested at all it's definitely worth a look.

    Here he is: http://www.youtube.com/user/PhillyEDC?feature=g-all-u

I also like to check in with new and different concepts and ideas. Here's an example:

His mag' carriers are also unique too.

I'm sure that there are many more.

I like the detailed molding, which looks like it will provide good retention. Very nice. I'm sure you could turn your hobby into a full-time job if you were so inclined.
