We use 416R stainless steel and our rifling shape is a series of arcs instead of square corners, as in the traditional style of Enfield rifling. This arc shaped rifling has long been held in very high regard for its accuracy, increased velocity, reduced gas cutting and ease of cleaning. Here you can see the difference between classic Enfield rifling compared to the 5 land and 3 land polygonal rifling.

Product Development and testing

We use steel from one of the nations largest steel suppliers.We have an ongoing inspection process as a proactive quality control measure on our products. Our quest is to provide the best products we can and not miss an opportunity to learn along the way.

-We purchase certified material and keep certifications on file.
-We record material lot numbers and track each piece of steel through the entire manufacturing process.
-We mark each barrel near the extension with our name, the lot number and the inspectors stamp.
-We perform magnetic particle inspections and other non-destructive testing
-We randomly employ destructive testing methods

How does BHW's compare to LW's polygonal or Shilen's ratchet button rifling?

The concept is the same. Polygonal & Ratchet rifling uses flats to shape and direct the bullet path where standard rifling uses lands and groove (teeth) to "cut" the bullet and direct the bullet path.
From speaking with Carl the CEO of BHW, they have a MFG process which makes the inside bore much harder than even some of the popular nitriding and other coatings.

It's a proprietary finishing process. (fancy word for trade secret).

From what I can tell, it's not a application or finish like Nitriding or similar but the way it's machined.

The machining won't make it any harder unless they are cold working it (that is, cold hammer forging).

Have one barrel ordered from them, it's the only thing I have left for my build. Ordered a 18 " 1:8 rifle length 223 wylde in silver. Going to place a seekins precision muzzle brake on it. The 18 inch is supposed to have the velocity of 20 inch typical 6 grove rifling. Will post pics once the rifle is completed.
Biggest issue with BHW is their wait times. But their barrels are in the sub-moa category, and the price is just right.

Built a 12" suppressed rifle for a local PD using BHW's 12" barrel. GREAT stuff...its a tack driver. I would like to use them more, but have trouble getting my hands on them.

BHW has done a lot of OEM work for many companies. We have been working with them closely to develop their product line, much like we have with MEGA Arms. Taking a good product and making it better and better to what they have become. They produce a sub-MOA barrel at a fraction of the price of the competitors.
