Mixed emotions on the Fortis Shorty Grip - have only "handled" it so far, but ham sized finger with wedding ring in the groove is odd feeling. I am holding judgement until I can put some rounds down-range. Weight is excellent for the materials used, and appearance is not an issue for me.

It is extremely well made and to very close tolerances. I pulled the Gen-2 MagPul VFG and put it on the Colt. I had to press-fit it into the Midwest Industries rail, it isn't going anywhere! With this arrangement, I can knuckle the Streamlight - either side of the toggle.

Jerry, any reason you just don't use taller rings instead of a riser? I'm no expert in scope mounts obviously, so trying to learn your thinking on that. Thanks.

Kevin, couple of lines of thought on it. I'm a fan of the angle-look rings as they allow me to kill 98% of the windage adjustments when bore-sighting the rifle. And, yes they make a taller version that would clear the BUIS. Problem is the irons won't raise with the scope in place. If I'm in the field and the scope goes south, I probably won't have the right Allen wrench with me, hence the QD mount. I have used other QD's with built in rings, and they work well also, but I wanted this combo on the Colt. You're right, rings on a fixed riser would not make a lot of sense unless required to clear the sights for some reason. But on a QD, easy off / easy back on, and in my findings very slight POI change, if any.

    Good question, thanks.

The shorty keymod has a cool look but I can't tell if it would be comfortable, anyone been running one for awhile with an opinion on it over other hand-stops?
