    Bullet question

I was sectioning a bullet pulled from a 7.62x39 round of unknown origin for a board, when lo and behold, instead of a lead or steel core, I found a hollow in the nose filled with small plastic beads. Headstamp was 31 16. I've been able to find out that it was some sort of experimental round, but other than that, nothing. Does anyone know anything about them? The one on the far right is what I'm talking about.

I think this is where you found some of your info....

From the markings, it sounds like it may be Chinese ammo. From what I can find, the plastic core ammo was used for practice ammo since it was cheaper to produce and would not penetrate anything much more than paper.

If you can take a photo of your actual round, post it and one of the headstamp as well.

British .303 Mk.7 ammunition had a aluminum insert where your plastic beads are located, the reason for this is it makes the bullet tail heavy and causes it to yaw sideways when it hits causing more damage.

See lower right Mk.7 bullet below, the inside of the tip could be aluminum, paper fiber or plastic.
