The lower was fine, just had part of the upper attached with the rear push pin.

He got lucky, could have been so much worse!

No kidding. To come away with no injuries is amazing. I saw the rear lug was missing and wondered how the lower made out.

I have definitely read one or two 300 BLK through 5.56 barrel threads where the bullet made out through the tube. Not sure if they were SBRs or what, but I am not making it up. I remember the surprise in the original thread I saw about the bullet making it out. The poster was surprised because no projectile was present, and there was some damage to the rifling, IIRC, so it went somewhere. People shooting 300 BLK through a .223 happens enough to the point I wouldn't rule anything out.
Here's one picture I found:

If the .300 BLK bullet was light enough with enough powder behind it/thin enough jacket, it could squeeze down enough to make it out of a short barrel 5.56/.223

Wow, that's crazy. I just assumed the weakest point of escape would still be blowing the bolt/carrier back going out the receivers.

To help clarify, a 277 barrel can't chamber a 223 and vise versa. Have personally tried them both each way. No go..

I keep a 12 gauge under the bed for when I don't have my contacts in. Even less chamber compatibility! :D

A local guy I know shot 300 BLK out of his 556 chamber. That only happened once. This happened awhile ago, and I asked if I could have the upper. As you can see. Make sure you check your ammo against the barrel you're shooting it out of.
