OK, one more wolf before I get ready to leave for Wyoming and Montana tomorrow. This image needs a lot of layer masked adjustment if it's ever going to be more than just a good story, but my primary computer is kaput (lightning storm) and I haven't been able to get it into Photoshop yet. So please excuse the unfinished look, but I hope you appreciate the story behind the image.

This is Soleil, shorty after experiencing a false pregnancy. This is pretty common for wolves - it even allows non-breeding females to share in pack feeding duties. She caught a ground squirrel, which she began using as a surrogate pup. You can see the squirrel carefully tucked between her rear legs. It's one of those moments I can't believe I got to witness, let alone capture.

Allright, definitely going next Summer. I'll spend the night for sure. Thanks for the photos

My first time shooting fireworks. It was an impromptu trip to see the fireworks, and they changed the location they launch them from, so my location wasn't ideal at all. UV filter probably didn't help with the lens flare, either.

Don't know what you're talking about because that looks awesome!

It's actually quite beautiful, and a nice piece of Americana.

Looks pretty good to me...and I think I know where that is!

I missed out on fireworks this year...you all should feel bad for me.

Thanks, guys, for the compliments! A lot of people seem to like the shot more than I do, which isn't a bad thing. I don't dislike it, I just wish I'd gotten other shots without so many obstructions.

The ambassador pack is their outreach program, so you can interact with members of that group in controlled circumstances. Here's one of the pack greeting a staff member during a visitor interaction.

Wolves aren't shy - they french kiss total stangers to say hello. Wolf etiquette demands exposed teeth and direct eye contact while receiving a greeting. Maggie, the matriarch of the ambassador pack, is insistent on good manners. Rumor has it, people have ended up on the ground (still being licked) because they didn't open their eyes

    That is freaking cool.

The tiger swallow-tail. I used to catch those with my brothers and mount them. The ones we didn't mount we pinned and then used as gliders when they got stiff enough.

Thanks BC - had no idea what it was. A few years ago I saw it on the plants at the office and I happened to have an Olympus pocket camera with me.
