I still haven't made it to Harper's, only driven through the area on the way to WV. But MD Heights is on my list of things to go to and photograph from. This was coming back from the EAG Tactical class in WV this Sunday.

Oh man, yeah you gotta get to harpers ferry. I assume that pic is from the bridge on 340?
The little road just off the end of the bridge takes you right into town, but it's tough to park down there. Better off to park at the park and visitor center and take the free bus into town.
MD Heights is especially cool when we get rain in MD and none in WV/VA or vice versa, so you have muddy water from one river running into clear water from the other.
Annapolis Rock and Black Rock are along the Appalachian Trail on south mountain on rt40 just inside washington county.

Not a bug person... but molting has always fascinated me when I was a kid.

It's pretty crazy how they just get out of their old exoskeleton and leave it relatively intact. We were walking the dog and the girl noticed it on the ground. I'd never actually seen one in real life.

If you are unfortunate enough to still be in maryland, wait til the next round of 17 year cicadas. You'll never want to see or hear another one... They were horrible in VA last year, but awesome for fishing.
This site gives you a list of what states and years they will emerge in.

We had most of the 17 year ones come out last year, and they were very noisy indeed. I didn't see any molted ones last year, but I was crazy busy at work at the time and mostly shooting landscapes during my drives to/from work instead of finding things on dog walks.
