I'm not referring to Playstation or team sports, but wild game. Do you like to hunt/fish? What's your favorite quarry? And where do you like to do it?

My favorite hunting to do is for wild boar/feral hogs. In most states, they can be hunted almost year-round, they are vicious, tough-as-nails, and damn if they aren't tasty.

First got turned onto it when I was stationed at Fort Benning and subsequently Fort Stewart (both in GA for those that don't know), the hogs are everywhere down there, and like in most states, they are considered a nuisance species, only a small game license required, no special stamp/tag needed.

They did serious damage to our training ranges, so much so, that one time during night training with M240B's equipped with thermal scopes, we had about 30-40 of them stroll out around the 800 meter mark, and Range Control told us to cut them down, and young Privates were eager to comply. Needless to say, THAT wasn't hunting, just pest control.

Since we also had artillery and tank lanes as well as small arms ranges, they had become accustomed to things that go "boom." Absolutely fearless and dangerous creatures, and that added to the thrill.

Another cool thing about hunting them there was that there are very few restrictions on the type of firearms used and/or mag restrictions. Not that I condone mindlessly unloading a 30 round mag into a pack of hogs mind you... But my trusty M1A Scout with a 10 round mag became my go-to for hogs.

It's great fun, puts meat on the table, and helps control a population that is already out of control. So a win-win-win as far as I'm concerned.

A little disclaimer: My tangent about the M240 range, and no mag restrictions in no way means I'm not an ethical hunter. I only believe in taking a shot at something when I am confident that I will take it down as quickly and humanely as possible. Unfortunately, far too many hunters don't follow this practice. Even though the hogs are considered a nuisance, I still give them the proper respect as I do any animal I hunt.
