GOP Lawmakers Hope to Combat Ammunition Stockpiling by Gov’t Agencies With AMMO Act
Latest story on Yahoo News
Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or "AMMO" Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo.
"DHS, for instance, has placed two-years worth of ammunition, or nearly 247 million rounds, in its inventory," the Free Beacon notes.

Funny thing is, if there can be something funny about this, several people were "whistle blowers" (in a sense) bringing this to the public anyway they could. The were labeled "right wing conspiracy theorists". 247M rounds? Please tell me, make something up if you have to, what DHS could possibly ever need 247 million rounds of ammo? I'm not buying DHS's "big discount for bulk purchases", either.

A pretty well reasoned explanation of contracts. If you've ever dealt with government allocations and/or contracts, it makes a little more sense and it's not the start of some New World Order. There's additional links on that page.
Given the more realistic numbers and understanding that FLETA by itself goes through a metric butt-ton of ammo for all it's students, along with the normal allocations for current agents/officers, it's really not that much ammo.
