Army has awarded the M4/M4A1 Contract to FN

Military Times is reporting the M4A1 contract which was disputed by Colt, and had previously gone to Remington, has now gone to FN.

Probably not what Colt was hoping for...

i'm curious to see what type of weapon they come out with. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

It'll be an M4A1 with an FN rollmark, just like the M16's they've been making, am I correct? Shouldn't be any functional changes. I'm very interested to see what happens to Colt's now. With neither the M16 nor the M4 contract, what Military contracts do they still have? Does that just leave Fed agencies and Police forces? I mean they haven't put nearly much stock into the civ market. Hopefully this will spark them to start trickling some of their newer products like the 901 and that SCW at competetive prices, and for Citizen's purchase.

This isn't taking away Colts contract, this just supplements the weapons being manufactured. I forget how many are allowed under this contract, but it is just for the M4 family. No new weapons, no redesigns are anything funky. A new rollmark is all that people will see, and most guys getting issued one won't even notice.

I was issued a well worn FN manufactured M16A2 as a cadet during training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky in 1993. That's a fact, Jack.
