Your sear may have come dis-engaged.

You can watch YouTube to learn how to fix it or have a gunsmith take care of it. I would recommend getting parts for a trigger job like a new sear while you have it apart.

I should clarify, When the grip safety is not installed and the thumb safety is not engaged the hammer will go to haIf cock then full cock. With the same scenario the Hammer will fall.this all changes when the grip safety is installed. I did not think the grip safety could cause that situation.

The hammer isn't going to fall without a grip safety installed because it needs to engage the mainspring.
I would check the set screw on your trigger to see if it moved.

I have seen times when the "ear" on the grip safety that engages the sear spring will break off or chip. That could cause it to not engage properly.

Are these after market installs you did yourself? If not sounds the sear maybe not engaged. Can you tell me what make and model it is? I need to know if it's a series 80's style or 70's style firing system.
