    Range Day

So we got to go to the range and today the action pistol pits were completely empty. So we played around in them for a little bit. I know I need to get a mag carrier ASAP. Looking to get a HSGI drop leg with double tacos. But until then I will be pulling mags out of my pocket and screaming like a little school girl when I can't dig the mag out of my pockets.

    COMP,

I know you want to have mags available, but, and I don't claim to be a "great instructor", get something that you'd carry on your belt with your gun.

One of the most important factors, I believe, in practicing for SD, is to train with what you will use. Most folks I know, nowdays with pistols with 17 rounds or more of ammo, don't bother carrying a spare mag on their belt. Others do. But usually, just one. I mean, seriously COMP, if you need more than 34 rounds of ammo, you are probably in a world of deep doo..doo. (PG 13 version).

Now, having lots of ammo for practice, I can see that. Sometimes I'll load 10 mags and lay on the bench for the sake of not having to thumb bust another mag to shoot.

But if you're training for SD, train with what you're carrying. You didn't really say what you were training for. If your training for competition, well that's another thing.

In the military, we trained with what we actually carried. I'm not saying that my training was better than yours, I'm just sayin'.....

Have fun. Glad your having fun with the wife. My ex got mixed up with her "mother earth socialist sister" and lost interest in shooting with me. No big deal, that's why she's an ex....

Haha your last paragraph cracked me up.

I want to shoot competition. There are some things that need to happen before I get serious about it. First I want to take some classes for pistol and some classes for carbine, Second I want to take some classes for pistol and carbine, Third get gear setup for what I think will work for me for competition.

I hear you on the carry aspect if I need more than 17 rounds I am in deep kaka. I haven't applied for my CCW yet, browcs and I had this conversation earlier and he is convinced I am some commie wussy haha. Wife is working on her CCW and after we move to Alabama I will apply for mine. Personally I will be carrying a shield and probably one spare mag. I have 4 mags for my M&P and for competition I think I will only be carrying 3 of them.

For daily mag carriers, I prefer the snagmag. Of course I can't carry in MD, but for range and training use I like it.

Sidebar: where you going in Alabama? Been thinking about heading south lately. Been looking at places in Huntsville.

Comp....I second the "train with what you use" mantra...and don't feel bad; approximately 70% of my office does not off-duty carry; that is not cool in my opinion, but one can only lead a horse to water.....you know the rest.

I am a firm believer that the carrying of a spare magazine has a lot to do with the feeding device being a potential weak point in the weapon system of one's choosing. I've had mags fail on me in quals and training; not often, but more than once. Heck, I recall a fellow FLETC student had an OEM Glock mag fail when the floorplate popped off causing the follower, spring, and rounds all fall to his feet.

But...I know I'm just preaching given your military experience and training.

By the way, great job to the both of you going out there and shooting. I am jealous, sir.

Finally....I believe the word I used merely rhymed with the word "wussy."

Soon hopefully the wife and I are applying for jobs in the same area. I am at the second phase for the IT position at the new Remington plant that will open up there in late 2014 early 2015.

Wow. I guess if I'm to be serious about it I should look into applying there. Cost of living is so much cheaper there. Houses for $130k that would be near $300k here. And most importantly, Roll Tide.

That area of Alabama is growing. I applied at the Remington plant.. if I don't make it in there well...lets just say there are a lot of government jobs that require decent clearance and since I used to be PRP'd I am pretty sure I can get the clearance needed to work in those positions. Lockheed, General Dynamics , Boeing, all of them are looking for IT people right now.

And yes Roll Tide.. I am originally from Alabama grew up running the campus in Tuscaloosa, all of my family is still in that area. Kinda why I picked Huntsville.. close to home but not too close if you know what I mean.

I really respect your attitude about improving your performance before going and getting serious about competition. I felt the same way (and probably take competition less seriously than you do). People think because they can shoot real good from a bench that it's the same thing. I really found doing a class or two improved my bag of tricks to pull from. Unfortunately, like many other things, it atrophies, so it always helps to practice.

All that said, I'm afraid to say that your wife suffers from a serious affliction. Please, seek help. VVS is no laughing matter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt9zSfinwFA

I hear that. They are accepting apps for line workers until next Monday... I've got some considering to do.
