    M16A4

So after much anticipated wait time for both waiting for it to come back on stock and to actually get it, it has finally landed in the eagle's nest. I have finally acquired the PSA 20" rifle kit that will ultimately become a M16A4 DMR spec'd rig, (I guess it's true of what they said, once you start, it's rather hard to stop.... :/ ) lol

    any who pic time!

Oh, love my some HPT/MPI goodies!
iPhone 3GS taken photos, don't cry.....I know it hurts your expectation for HD quality lol

    Love the packaging!

That white spot is not a blemish fyi...

    A2 stock anyone?

Was really expecting a "one of the convoy" bolt, but this is essentially a premium PSA bolt with no logo, I approve!!

And while I was waiting for the upper to arrive, got a Vortex Strikefire and Aeroprecision branded PSA lower as well.

    The complete set.

I guess it's appropriate to ask the community for guidance as to where and what to get. Since this is going to be a DMR version, free floaty rail is in order, but have some serious questions to ask about it. I do love the style of the Knights Armament RAS, but that stuff gets pricey quick and considering it's not free floated defeats this purpose of a build.

Are there any rails similar to the KA ras in terms of styling that is free floated? I've read somewhere about Daniel Defense having some, but can't put my finger on it........

This is the type of rail I have in mind

    Thanks!

If you're looking for a quad FF rail LaRue makes one similar to KAC's. Daniel Defense also makes a few but they are pretty pricey. PRI makes a modular handguard if you're going for the MK12 MOD 0 look. Personally, I'd invest in a good optic before looking for a handguard. The optic will have a larger effect than the FF rail. I think a modular rail would be best since you're probably not going to use the side rails.

What length of rail do you want to go with?

The KAC RAS you have pictures is a free float rail. I think you are thinking of the KAC M5 Rail that is not free float.

I am looking more into quad FF as the type of rail, but the issue is finding one that is good and exceptional pricing. I'm already working on building a Mk12 MOD1 semi-clone (similar to the like of SR-25 in styling and have already decided on Leupold for optics).

UWone77, I plan on keeping the FSB (unless someone convince me otherwise) so the length will be that of FSb, 15" I think? Yeah, I notice the one i posted in free floated, but was seeing if there are more "economical" solutions as well. Yes, M5 was the one i was thinking when i initially began planning the build lolol

    thanks for the inputs!

That would be a 12" rail to fit behind a FSB on a rifle-length barrel.

I'd love to see a M16A4 Clone as you put it with the KAC Rails, Foregrip, ACOG, ect.

Always wanted Colt to put out a Clone and looks like it's probably in the works. Definitely keep us updated, I bet you got a pretty good deal on the PSA.

Thanks! Yeah I got a excellent deal on it and to my surprise, it was all high quality components.

With this being a clone, as I claim it, it won't be exact as the ACOG will have to wait for a while lol (unless UWone wants to donate :p :p ) it will b rocking a vortex strike fire red/free with a 2x extension, for the time being at least lol.

Gotta go source me a quad FF

    Thanks for the inputs!

I have a question to ask, since I'm going to be removing the FSB to install a FF. It uses taper pins to hold the FSB down, I presume these cannot be used again (mainly because I have never worked with taper pins on a fsb, mainly screwed low profile gas blocks) Where would I be able to source replacement pins? Local hardware store or that's something from Brownell's?

So have you messed with the taper pins to punch them out yet? I've had 3 or 4 PSA uppers I've knocked the front sight off of to install lopro gas blocks. I don't know what PSA uses, but they were by far the toughest FSB pins I've ever had to remove. Had to spray them down with Kroil first to get them to budge.

Most of the time I've reused the front sight pins without issue, but I have purchased a set or two extra from BCM.

I have not messed with the taper pins (because I am quite frightened to be honest...lol not entirely comfortable in removing a taper pin versus std. gas tube screws) But, as I look into more FF quad rail options, I may need to suck it up and go for it (Please assist me UWONE!!!! lol).

But, I did manage to get the whole system installed, checked and yeah, A4 clone with ff is definitely on the to-do list. So far, Midwest Industries was the best in terms of pricing.

    Pics pics!!

Alright guys and gals (if there are any here).

Here is the update on the M16A4 DMR Pseudo Clone.

The only thing left is a 1-9x optic and its set.

Added a Troy's 2 piece free float rail (imo, the best bang for the buck and the quality is UNMATCHED!! Want to say it's about as good as my Seekins Precision MCSR 15 Rail)

    -Strike Industries VFG Pro

-UTG Extreme Sniper Bipod - on for photo purpose

    -Vortex Red/green optics

and last, but not least, new phone (note 3) with badass camera that takes awesome photos

    Enjoy!

Pseudo MK12 MOD1 is next in line

Here's my M16A5. I am using the Vltor A5 with B5 SOPMOD. The rail is the same one I used in Iraq back in 2006-07 on my M16A4 modified.

I might suggest you ditch that VFG. It's a little unnecessary and redundant. I would look at eBay and several other locations for a drop in KAC rail.

I don't see how the VFG is redundant, but to each their own I suppose. (PS: Thank you for your service!!)

No, KAC didn't produce any drop in free float rail and that's what I had my mind set on. That's when I stumble upon Troy's industries system. Fully free floated and 2 piece setup.

    Your rifle looks delicious btw!

Yes, I was referring to getting a regular KAC rail if you were attempting some type of clone.
