OSS Suppressors
Anyone running or shoot an OSS Suppressor yet? As a left handed rifle shooter, the quest for less gas in the face has always been never ending. What I like about the OSS Suppressor is that it's not based on a traditional baffle stack design. Most of the gas blows out of the front of the suppressor.
Great explanation on how their suppressor technology works:
I plan to purchase one for myself, probably the beginning of next year.
About OSS
OSS develops and manufactures suppression technologies that are based on real world, war time, and commercial demands. We are located in Murray, Utah adjacent to Salt Lake City. We operate out of an 18,000 square foot state of the art facility dedicated to production and R&D of our suppression systems.
Our staff comes from many facets of special operations and law enforcement. Combined, we have over a century of Special Operations and combat experience, the majority of which came post 9/11. We take this knowledge combined with our brothers still deploying and apply it to every product we produce, creating new standards for weapon suppression devices.
As an operator or shooter are you impressed with how quiet your suppressor is when your eyes are watering and you are choking on gases forced out of the chamber and into your face? When your weapon fails due to excessive fouling, high cyclic rates of fire, and extreme pressures? When your flash signature pinpoints your exact location regardless of sound? How about when your “quick-detach” won’t detach or falls off while shooting? Or when your point of impact is erratic and unpredictable? We have been there in special units with, “top notch equipment”, as many of you have, and all of the above has happened while in the worst conditions possible. With over a decade of suppressor design and manufacturing experience prior to joining Special Operations, the founder and president of OSS refused to accept these industry norms after living the reality and failures of traditional suppressors, and set out on a conquest to change this in 2007. At OSS, we can guarantee your suppressor will be ear safe, your weapon will function as designed, and your flash, sound, and heat signature will be reduced while maintaining accuracy and keeping gases out of your eyes, nose, and mouth.
We can say with the utmost confidence, OSS is the future of weapon suppression devices. Our modular suppression devices are revolutionary and employ more than 12 patented technologies. This system was developed, is owned and manufactured by former Special Operations soldiers who have been there. Our brothers will never fail us, we want our weapons to be the same. We manufacture this system as a Mission, a Mission to provide state of the art devices that:
-Enhance mission survivability and increase capabilities for professional warriors.
-Provide a sustainable, user maintained, and cost effective suppression system.
-Offer the same capability to every shooter that is tired of the same things we are.

The do drastically reduce gas to the face. Not quite as silent as some other cans out there but they do plenty and get even more effective when attaching more modules at the end.
Which pretty much suites their mission specific objective. Also, they take all their readings in testing at the shooters ear and not off the muzzle like normal numbers indicate.
Its definitely an interesting design and I think the system is a great advancement in the industry.

They are IMO the most advanced cans out there and may revolutionize the industry. The gas to face reduction is amazing, and the RTZ is second to none. I was completely blown away after shooting a couple when they did their tour. They may not be listed as quiet by DB as others as HardEight explained, but to the shooter they were much quieter than the Silencerco Saker or the Surefire Socom that was also present on the range, with drastic reduction is blowback gasses. The reduction of gasses means the most to me as I am a lefty.

These are looking to be a game changer. Is there a need for a device like a switchblock with these?

I guess an actual need would be subjective and rifle dependent. But for the most part, the ones I have seen them on, didn't require it.

Hen i held one, I thought they were large and heavy when you added on the modules. I think the main thing going for it in my opinion is not getting gas face. I'll probably wait for their next design.. hopefully equal or more efficient but in a smaller lighter package.
