No, the M300 blows the Malkoff LED head out of the water from a performance standpoint. Hence why I bought an M300C and an Arisaka mount and M300 body. SF sells the M300C heads (or will? Currently they just sell the Ke1A heads...) by themselves for the price of the entire light from a dealer, so I just bought the entire light to get the LED engine from it, although the Arisaka body looks very clean to me, so I bought that, too.

I haven't seen the C yet in person, but the B (KE1-A head) does have a nice tight beam thanks to the TIR lens. If you want throw, then you have to stick with Surefire right now, though. The Malkoff heads are definitely more CQB oriented. I think the Malkoff heads are much better for use inside buildings or homes, while the Surefire (non-fury) heads excel outdoors.

This is a Rosch Works SL-1. It uses the same XPG-2 and Don McLeash reflector that I believe the E1 uses. As far as I know, Don only makes one reflector for these. Distance is 20 yards. I agree that the E1 would be fine for indoors, but out-doors, the SF wins hands-down, and it does great indoors, as well. You will note in the following pictures the spill is VERY similar, with the SF having a much punchier hotspot. The hot-spot somewhat drowned out a bit of the spill due to light metering in the woods pictures, but on the targets, you can really see how the spill is nearly identical out at the edges.
This is a SF E1D, same engine as the M300C.
SL1 @ 25 yards:
E1D @ 25 yards (these pictures were not taken on the same night, notice the right-hand target is missing, and the left is not near as pretty as before):
At distance is where the SF really walks away:
50 yards:
FYI, here is the M300B with the 200OTF lumen head, you will note that it has a narrower beam than the M300C with the 300 lumen rating:
So, yes, if your experience is with the M300B, then I can see how you feel the spill is limited. The M300C is a beast, though.
All that said...the Malkoff is a VERY good piece of gear, $100 cheaper, and the one aspect I do like about it is that the hot-spot isn't as hot. Strictly indoors, a very bright hot-spot does have the effect of distracting me. My eyes naturally gravitate toward it. For this reason, my HD carbine wears a SL-1, which is functionally the same as the Arisaka package. Each has their uses. I remain a huge fan of Surefire, and Gene Malkoff, and support them both.Last edited by JGifford; 8 May 2015 at 10:47.
