I wonder if you wrapped your index finger in front if you'd get a similar feel.

"the M-LOK AFG is ¾" shorter than the AFG-2 while maintaining a similar gripping surface area"

Which depending on how they shaved off the 3/4" it could make a more single point gripping surface with less 'play' in it... Who knows....

I've tried that and never really liked it. Which brings me on to this:

If they shaved some of the height off, but kept more-or-less the same angle, that would be pretty cool. Basically just move the hand closer to the rail altogether. It kind of looks that way. In this case the index finger wrapped around the front might work.

I'm guessing it will probably be cheap enough to just buy one and try it out. Even if I don't like it they sell really quick on the second hand market.

If you look at the AFG2 the angled grip part forms a definitive angle, and it then almost 'abruptly' goes to level with the rail. With this new one it looks a whole lot more sloped and contoured.

It slopes into the rail more rather than having that abrupt angle.

It's also not 'back angled'...meaning the back end of it has no angle really... it just is what it is...the length is where they shaved off.... I measured on the pic by GOST and M Lok rail holes are standard size....so its just about 4" long tip to tail vs the AFG2 which is 4.7 inches long.

The height is about 2" from the bottom of the rail to the tip of the nub. Which is similar to the AFG2....only with a different contour into the rail.

Thanks for doing the measuring. This may be one I need to actually feel in person first.

At that price, I think I'd rather go with the KAG. I can get 2 of those for roughly the same price.

When I saw this price I was kinda surprised. I know it's bigger than the BCM KAG, but didn't figure that it would be close to twice the price.

On the bright side, at least it's slightly cheaper than the AFG/AFG2

It really should be, it looks like a much simpler item to manufacture (not that I know what I'm talking about), but I expected it to be around the $20 price point.

M-LOK handguards may be cheaper than Keymod, but so far the accessories are higher.

Which is brilliant from a marketing and profit margin standpoint. :)

I would say though that once there are more people putting out parts the prices will drop. Its the law. It just happens that way.

I know it's form over function, but that has to be one of the ugliest version of the AFG ever.

Personally, I still like the angle of the AFG2. Seems like I'm drifting along with a lot of others to handstops.

I have a hand stop and for one reason or another it just isn't all that comfortable. Maybe (more like probably) I am using it wrong. I've been wondering what the correct technique is for how the thing is designed.
