Check-308 catch and takedown/pivot pins.
the buffer thing ( as i keep researching/reading) seems to go 2 ways use a std ar15 buffer and a 308 buffer, then some say no use a dedicated 308 tube and buffer, My question is there a physical difference, like in length ?
Lol...I thought you might say that...i have and have some select barrels and they have shot just fine...
Just curious what others to look for, I see mega makes a 16" 308 barrel. and i have the baby 556 mega barrel...
Damnit...so did i...lol....
Gaspipe, thanks for all the info, too many quotes to re quote..lol..Last edited by mustangfreek; 9 January 2015 at 04:47.

U B welcome. I was talking to one of the specialists at Brownell's last night via their chat function, because I'm looking at the Magpul PRS for a project. I have an A2 stock/tube/rifle buffer and spring set up on the parts shelf. According to him, I would need a different, heavier spring and a different buffer for .308, but the tube is the same for .308 or .223/5.56. He said the same applied to the carbine set up as well. Makes sense to me that the spring and buffer should be stouter to handle the additional punishment, and I know from browsing that JP Enterprises makes different springs for the two different calibers.

Like Tact says, I think you're talking about an Innovative Arms (made in SC about 45 mins from me) upper receiver.
I've had one for about two years now and its worth every penny. I want a second one for my SPR build.

Tact, the WAR is different than an adjustable gas block. The WAR allows the gas tube to remain fully pressurized and gives the rifle a much softer feel. My 16" middy barely has any recoil ad

How light do you think you can build a 16" gun? using like a med. contour barrel and say a forged aero receiver set?
Still curious to hear/see some build pics and specs/weights..
Come on fellas....Post up!!!

I know as far as barrels go, the medium contour 16 inch version of the Rainier Select barrel is only about 1.5-2 ounces lighter than the full version.
I know where I will really would save weight on mine (even though it's 5.56) is the barrel/rail combo, the optic, and the stock (go with something like the Magpul STR instead of the PRS or UBR for example).

Thanks...
Former11b- Hummm not much weight difference there...
I have a B5 stock laying around, but still not sure which stock i will use., but i recently Switched the B5 from my 556 bench gun for a magpul fixed stock and i like that also for a lightweight/affordable option.

You going to go with the Aero Precision Receiver Set?
Probably the most cost effective way to go...
Unless you pony up for the SI Defense Set.

You know me..im a cheap ass slowly coming around..lol..
So without looking them up, i can remember some numbers off the top of my head
-PSA set
-Aero precison
-CMT
-RA billet set
First 2 for a set mid $200's plus transfer fee and tax, and really not even gonna consider psa for my own reasons...so aero is kinda the winner.............then it jumps up quick like 4 something for CMT and almost 6 bills for the RA set, Which is my favorite of them all, but i just wont be able to swing it..Unless i win some kick ass 308 cerakoted set like some else i know..lol......but that wont happen gingers dont win shit.......lol
Now if Mega Arms offered a 308 forged set for around the same price as the aero, then hell yes...

I asked mega on their facebook page if they planned on making any 308 forged sets and they said no, also asked about BCG's...possibly was the answer or something close to, not sure who is behind the screen or if they do or dont indeed now, but would of loved a forged mega 308 set

Bump...
So when using an aero 308 set besides their takedown/pivot pin is there any others that work?
Also mag catch?

Yeah, I don't see a forged Mega .308 set happening any lifetime soon.
We keep asking them about laser engraved Mega BCG's, I think they will eventually do that. They have some other projects they're working on to bring to market.
Also, Did Aero say they only like proprietary take down pins? This is the first Iv'e heard of it.
