I was almost Asian. My dad told me as a kid that 1 out of every 4 kids in the world is Asian and it was a 1 in 4 chance I would come out Asian. Sadly for my academics I was and am not. But count me in anyways.

I've studied Chinese since 1994...so I guess I just made 20+ years in it. I've lived in Beijing a few times. Lived in Singapore. Been all over the place over there.

I have always been the novelty white guy who speaks Chinese. It was fun at first to be called out all the time but like 8,000 times in it got really old. A lot of Chinese people get just plain old giddy out of seeing a white guy with the Mandarin flowing.

Naw, but seriously I have lived in Asia off and on for a really long time.

I think I've spent about half of the last 20 years living in Asia or the Pacific or somewhere or another over there.

I also had a short time living in Africa too

Vietnamese! Been there done that. I love the food. Vietnam has some of the best food in Asia. That ain't no joke.

And FWIW a lot of North Vietnamese are mixed with some ethnic 'Chinese'...

The term "Chinese" though... its all propaganda. There are so many different ethnic groups... it's like saying "American"...

You know I've heard that a lot; unfortunately I haven't had much other Asian food outside of Vietnamese to compare that too.
