I will put my uppers against any factory built ones out there. Jacked up head spacing and cocked gas blocks from a few very well known is why I got serious about building them myself in the first place.

I suppose that depends on who you ask, but for me a pinned gas block is a must. Do gas blocks back out for the most part? Not really, but I've seen it happen, and pinning a gas block isn't going to break the bank. Some manufacturers like Noveske pin their gas blocks for you. In fact the only uppers without pinned blocks that I owned are BCM and a Ballistic Advantage 10.5.
