It more expensive than I thought it would be.
I have the drill press, but the jig is $100+, but are $40-70.
    Plus refinish when you're done.

I'll refinish it myself and if I did one I'd probably seek out someone to loan a jig or pitch in for one..

The only 80% lower i own is one of those polymer jobs, JMT? I have yet to finish it. I'd love to get some forged 80% lowers to finish, but the perfectionist ex-machinist in me would want to finish it on a mill, which is something i don't have ready access to anymore.

I saw on another forum where they have a forum jig that travels around. One guy gets it working and then they just mail the thing around. I have to go look but I think there over a few years they had several hundred recipients of the jig, if not more than that.

I am a severe perfectionist but I don't have the know how to do stuff with tools like I should. I can get basic jobs done but I need to go to a class or something and learn milling or whatever. I think if I worked with a pro for a day or two to see how they do it I could get the hang of it....

As for right now if I tried to mill or finish an 80% lower it would look like hammered shit when I was done so I stay away from those (even though it's interesting to me)

If you have an mechanical inclination at all (and from reading your posts, i'm guessing you do), you could learn how to finish an 80% lower toot sweet. Especially using a jig on a mill with a digital readout.

If I take my time I have no doubt I could do it. From simple trial and error on other projects though I have learned that I need to reserve said project for a day when I have extra patience.

Based on my non professional experience with other things your set up time should be 3, 4, or even 5 times as long as it takes to actually cut, drill, or mill the damn thing.

Set-up is critical. I used language that would make mere profanity look like something from a children's book out of the frustration induced in trying to get a job set-up and running smoothly. Now i use that language while sitting in traffic.

Be sure and keep us posted on how it turns out. I'm especially interested in how it goes if all you use is the jig and a drill press.
