My 1st 1911
I picked this up a few weeks ago and just got around to imaging it today. It's 100% stock for now but I plan to change the grips and send it to Springfield Custom Shop for "reliability" and possibly cosmetic upgrades. Anyway here's the "porn."

The extended dustcover should work out nicely, I think thats a good looking setup. Let us know how she shoots.

Thanks. I will let everyone know how she shoots. Hopefully the weather will improve by the weekend out here. It was a hard decision between this one and the TRP Operator. I felt this one was more comfortable to hold without gloves out of the box though (and it was almost half the price.) I also knew it was possible to add the TRP reliability type upgrades to this one for a minimal cost as well later on after I break it in a bit.

Now you went and did it! 1911's are just like Lays potato chips.

There's something about 1911's that are so beautiful.. They are the guns you take home to meet mom..
Glocks are the sexy little tramps you take out to dominate and abuse, but they come back for more..
Same concept goes for M1 Garands and AR's...

So I just came from the range. I was satisfied with the accuracy of my 1911 using Federal Hydrashok 230gr. The Winchester White Box was about how I expected... good for training and target shooting but not a "grouping round." As far as reliability goes I had 4 Failures to Feed out of 220 rounds (I don't know if this is common in 1911 during the break in period though.) I don't have enough time or a large enough sample of rounds through it to judge the overall reliability of the weapon. I couldn't isolate the problem either (whether it was a bad round, magazine issue, or the gun.) Every time it happened though it was on the last round of the magazine (factory supplied Springfields.) I always down load by 2 rounds though. Overall I'm satisfied with the weapon thus far. I look to add a 5" model soon enough as well.

Four feed failures in 220? Could just be the break-in, but I would be paying very, very close attention to my magazines at this point, too. The overwhelming majority of these kinds of problems are magazine-related, which is why Wilson Combat 47Ds became the gold standard of 1911 mags many years ago, no matter what version of Old Slabsides you happened to prefer. Some people swear by Chip McCormick as well, but as a rule, factory mags don't enjoy a very good reputation.
I'm not familiar enough with Springfield magazines to denigrate them based upon 220 break-in rounds, but personally, I would be replacing them as quickly as possible, and running another 200-300 rounds though the gun next weekend to see if perhaps that was a contributing factor. Better than even money says that it is.

Yeah I plan to get new magazines as well as send it to Springfield for "reliability" work anyway. Thanks for the tip on the better brands though. I was thinking 500+ rounds would be a good measure of "break-in."
