Multiply the lbs of weight by the length you measured converted from inches to feet. Boom... ft-lbs of torque. If you don't have weights but do have a scale you can use that same length then stand on the scale. Push down on the parallel wrench until you subtract 30-80 lbs from your weight on the scale.. boom known torque.

    McGuyver would be proud.
I wanna try the scale one.

The 9" is actually called the SMR556 9.188 SR. The actual length is engraved on the rail itself, just like on the 12". I took a measurement for those of you confused by decimals.

The weight of the rail, nut and hardware comes to 8.64oz.

Unlike the 13.6" GFY rail that shipped previously, this one came with an anti-rotation pin.

For those who complained on the loose fit of the rail over the barrel nut on the GFY rail, this one's tolerance are very snug. Same barrel nut but sans the Erath3 logo. I hope they release a lightweight nut for this.

I'm mounting to a 10.3 Ballistic Advantage barrel. Here's the gap on the end with and without muzzle device. The barrel nut is not fully torqued yet as I'm not ready to finish this upper.

And a full body shot. Screws are not inserted because nut is not timed.

I'm very pleased. I've had this part of the project on hold since last fall when Chris expected the shorter rails available by Christmas. Glad to have it all in hand now. More details on the project in the coming months.
    That is gonna be sexy.

I'm using Magpul covers. Type 2s. They fit fine. I also have a set of the griffin armament covers but they feel to bulky on the rail.

Do y'all know if anyone sells shorter screws for MLOK accessories? My cousin tried installing a Magpul rail section for a bipod on the rifle pictured above, and the screws hit the barrel before they're tight. Just wondering if there is anyone that sells shorter MLOK screws online, or if his best bet would be to try to find some at a hardware store. He lives over an hour away from the nearest Lowes or HD so ordering them online would be ideal.

Why can't he just cut them to length?

That is Plan A. I think he's taking a Dremel to the screws tonight.

The Atlas is on the way so hopefully I can make a trip out there soon to take pictures of it. Oh, and shoot it...I guess that'll be fun too.

By the way everyone, there is now a Table of Contents in the first post of this thread! It has a list with hyperlinks of every SMOS complete rifle or upper posted in this thread, along with the person's username and a brief description of the build. Pyzik and I will try to keep it updated as often as possible as new builds are posted.

Josh, that rifle is looking great!

I need some help here guys.
I finally have a barrel coming (thanks James). Nothing special, but a barrel nonetheless. I can upgrade later.

What I can't decide on is a Griffin Armament taper mount flash hider or their minimalist hider.

    Standard

    Minimalist

It doesn't help that there are like NO pictures of the minimalist on rifles.
