Roger, after installing 3 on the last few builds, the other AR's I have seem to have bolt catches that just look too small. The ABC is such a good size in between the standard milspec bolt catch, and the monstrosity that is the bolt catch on the AXTS AX556

    Richard,
Thank you! AXTS bolt catches are incompatible with standard ARs, unless they changed the receiver and bolt catches lately.

Josh sent me couple of modified AX-556 bolt catches. I like them, the lower paddle struts out further than that on a factory bolt catch, I don't really care about the upper paddle size, as I explained in the ABC/R's product description, I never use the upper paddle, but do realize many users do, so it's tastefully enlarged and twice angled (10 degree and 15 degree, giving it a slightly "bent" appearance) for easy and intuitive access.

ABC/R is most likely the only bolt catch designed with the ambi mag catch users in mind, though its features work wonderfully without an ambi mag catch installed. To make the lower paddle larger, it could be shaped like an L or inverted T, or, in our case, the lower paddle is simply elongated and given effective serrations. Compared to a factory bolt release's lower paddle, ABC/R probably has four to five times the surface area, but it hardly looks it. To give it that much surface area without making the paddle obscenely and noticeably large is our way of making things better by not making them worse.

We machine the ABC/R as much as its features require, no more and no less. The machining work is done beautifully, but it serves a purpose. This isn't an exercise in intricate and in many cases, unnecessary machining. There isn't a void or negative space to earn fashion points (the lightening cuts help keep ABC/R's weight close to that of a factory bolt catch, they're not for looks, and are mostly invisible once installed), we make combat/duty ready components, not for beauty pageants. Parts count remain the same (one).

In a market awash in ARs and associated accessories, where being different can make the product stand out, we and our products remain boringly true to our mission statement.

Same here generous wevo member thru me a abc/r to try and just mocking it up it feels good, like said above just right in size .. Installing the emr-c on the sane lower and can see more or your stuff in future builds and replacing older ones..

The forward assist of yours I've yet to try but will eventually, good stuff!!

    Thank you guys!
I've always been of the opinion that bigger isn't always better, yet sometimes to improve something, it may just need to grow in size a bit, and there are ways to do it without shouting to everyone "look at me!"

The LDFA had gone the opposite direction (it became smaller.) It's a controversial piece of component the merits of which we don't need to discuss here. Its size can be reduced and still work just as well, but more importantly, its existence in the original shape conflicts with the use of an ambi charging handle for users that do use the charging handle by its right latch. So it was made smaller, again in the way that's hard to discern.

EMR-A (ambi) also follows the same philosophy. Its lever/paddle has more usable and useful surface area, and isn't obscenely oversized to attract attention
